An experience with a taste of Mexico in MaracayIf there is something I love to eat, it's elotes, or as we call them here in Venezuela: jojotos. Since I was a child they have been one of my favorite foods, and every time I have the opportunity, I prepare them at home. But now a small place has arrived in my city that stole my heart, Elotes El Macho.
Si hay algo que me encanta comer, son los elotes, o como les decimos aquí en Venezuela: los jojotos. Desde niña han sido de mis comidas favoritas, y cada vez que tengo la oportunidad, los preparo en casa. Pero ahora llegó a mi ciudad un pequeño local que me robó el corazón, Elotes El Macho.
Very inspired by Mexican gastronomic culture, this place landed in Maracay to conquer palates with its explosion of flavors. Since I heard about its opening in the Unicentro Shopping Center, I had the visit noted on my to-do list, and finally I was able to fulfill it. Today I want to share my experience with you.
The menu revolves around corn and offers two ways to enjoy it: corn on the cob served with toppings to taste and depending on your level of courage with the spiciness, and the esquites, shelled corn served in a glass with equally tasty and hearty mixtures.
Muy inspirado en la cultura gastronómica mexicana, este sitio aterrizó en Maracay para conquistar paladares con su explosión de sabores. Desde que supe de su apertura en el Centro Comercial Unicentro, tenía la visita anotada en mi lista de pendientes, y por fin pude cumplirla. Hoy quiero compartirles mi experiencia.
El menú gira en torno al maíz y ofrece dos formas de disfrutarlo: los elotes, servidos en mazorca con toppings al gusto y según tu nivel de valentía con el picante, y los esquites, maíz desgranado servido en vaso con mezclas igual de sabrosas y contundentes.
For my first visit I chose the esquites, purely for the convenience of eating. I tried the “Lupita” option, which includes shelled corn, butter, sour cream, Greek yogurt, paprika, Tajín, parsley and parmesan cheese. I customized mine by removing the Tajín and parsley, and adding bacon as an extra topping. The total price was $4.5 ($3.5 for the esquite + $1 for the topping), and honestly, it was worth every penny.
Para mi primera visita elegí los esquites, por pura comodidad al comer. Probé la opción “Lupita”, que incluye maíz desgranado, mantequilla, sour cream, yogurt griego, paprika, Tajín, perejil y queso parmesano. Yo personalicé el mío quitando el Tajín y el perejil, y agregando tocineta como topping extra. El precio total fue de 4.5 $ (3.5 $ el esquite + 1 $ el topping), y sinceramente, valió cada centavo.
The mix of flavors is simply delicious. The portions are generous and the care in each preparation is noticeable. In each bite you can feel all the ingredients, in perfect harmony.
La mezcla de sabores es simplemente deliciosa. Las porciones son generosas y se nota el cuidado en cada preparación. En cada bocado se sienten todos los ingredientes, en perfecta armonía.
Another plus point is the setting: each flavor is named after a Mexican wrestler, which reinforces the cultural theme. If you are a spicy lover, here you will find options for all levels.
Otro punto a favor es la ambientación: cada sabor lleva el nombre de un luchador mexicano, lo que refuerza la temática cultural. Si eres amante del picante, aquí vas a encontrar opciones para todos los niveles.
