Today I got my bag robbed, whilst I was in town. It had all my money in it, (yes foolish me, carrying all the cash I had, on me.) but I had a payment due. It also had my work keys, some food and perhaps most important to me, a piece of Connemara Marble that my sister had gifted me, when I was pregnant with my first child. I have been carrying it around with me for the last 16 years and since she passed, if felt so good to always carry it with me, to have a piece of her with me.
I know, I carry her in my heart, but this stone was shaped like a heart and it was from one of her favourite places in the world.
The work keys are a problem of course, I need them to be able to work. Which I really need to do now, that all my money was stolen. My work is cash in hand, which suited me, until of course my cash got stolen. I did have my bank card in there as well, but I could freeze that, so that is not a problem.
I went around to shops, I checked bins, I tried to go to the Policia, but they were shut for the day. So I walked around town, thinking maybe I spot someone with it. What I would do, well, approach them and hope for the best. At this stage I have accepted that I have lost the money, but the keys and stone I would really like to get back.
I spoke with a friend of mine, who said that there was a place in town, where you could go if something had been stolen and if it is there you can maybe buy it back. This is also the place people go to buy hardcore drugs. Which to be honest, is not where I wanted to be going at night. Plus I had no money. My friend offered to go with me, to see if it was there and if so make a plan.
So off we set, feeling somewhat apprehensive, the moment we got to this area, a man approached us, asking what we needed. So my friend who has much better Spanish than me, explained why we were there. Straight away the gut said he could go look, but would need 30 euro to do so. Which sounded well dodgy to me, plus I have no money now, as it was in my bag.
I told him, if he could show me the bag, or take a photo of it and show me, then I would find a way to get the money. He said no and also that he needed to leave in 10 minutes. I was feeling desperate, so I called another friend, who told me not to be stupid, to not hand over any money, with no proof. Well that's easy to do, as I don't have any, so of course I left empty handed. With still no idea where my bag could be.
I get it, with the cost of living rising everywhere, these are hard times for everyone. Like I said I'm happy to let the money go, I just want the keys and the stone. I really hope they turn up. I went to lots of shops and tomorrow I will go to the policia, but I have been warned that unless the bag and contents were valved over 400 euro, then they won't really help me. But maybe someone handed it in? I can hope, can't I.
