Moving now to our daily shots, here's more random photos taken last week in the city of pines. This first photo was the moment our workhorse passed under the iconic Kennon Road arch with the crisp cold air that greeted us and also signaling our official entry into Benguet. That famous gateway marked the true beginning of our mountain adventure.
Roughly after an hour later we have arrived at the streets of Baguio. We soon got to the steps of the majestic Baguio Cathedral with its twin spires reaching into the misty sky. We stepped inside the quiet and solemn church and took a moment for a few short personal prayers of thanks with a deep sense of gratitude and calm before we continued our journey.
Then after our quiet quick time at the Baguio cathedral, we stepped out into the cold and lively Session Road just some meters away. The street was bustling with people and while walking we spotted something famous that you don't see everywhere even in Metro Manila: the taxi and not the typical small car but a big, shiny white Toyota Fortuner which is looking more like a wealthy family's SUV than a public taxi. Riding in a vehicle like this would be a huge luxury but now, anyone can experience that smooth and feel rich ride for the exact same price as any other taxi. I myself haven't had experienced riding a Toyota fortuner before.
Then after a long walk of nearly one and a half kilometers, we finally arrived at Otek Street that's home to the famous Good Taste Restaurant, this is the second branch, the original is located in Dangwa terminalcand both were nown for its incredibly affordable and generously sized meals.
I decided on the ampalaya lechon with rice, while my wife chose the string beans lechon. Our friend went for the lechon chopsuey rice. The best part? Each massive, delicious plate only cost around four dollars. We left the restaurant completely stuffed.
After our fulfilling meal at Good Taste, we went for another long drive to Kabayan where we were scheduled to climbed Mount Tabayoc early the next day. The climb was challenging but incredibly rewarding with breathtaking views from the second highest peak in the Cordillera. Then right after coming down form the summit and reaching our transient at around two in the afternoon, we made our way back to Baguio City where we arrived as the sun set. We headed straight to another transient house in this city and straight for the famous night market along Harrison Road. The street was completely closed off to vehicles and packed with rows upon rows of stalls lit by bright lights.
It was a shopper's paradise with stalls selling everything from shirts, shoes and bags to jeans and all kinds of ready to wear items while all prices far cheaper than the big malls. The place was so crowded with both tourists and locals that police officers were visibly present along the stretch and they calmly ensured that everyone stayed peaceful and in order. It was the perfect and lively end to an unforgettable tiring day.
