Today, I revisited the Food Place food court, located at Pavilion Mall. The food court is located beside the Oriental Kopi Restaurant.
This time I ordered crab fried rice from the Siam Taste stall, which cost RM19.90 per plate.
The Crab Fried Rice features fluffy jasmine rice stir-fried with eggs, chopped vegetables (such as carrots and spring onions), and fragrant aromatics like garlic. Generous shreds of real crab meat are placed on top, adding a subtle sweetness and luxurious texture. Accompaniments include fresh cucumber slices, shredded lettuce and carrots, and a lemon wedge for added brightness. The rice is served on a banana leaf, a traditional touch that enhances presentation and adds a hint of aroma. A bowl of clear soup with herbs is served on the side, acting as a palate cleanser.
Crab Fried Rice, also called Khao Pad Poo in Thai, is a classic Thai comfort food. It originates from Thailand, where seafood is abundant, especially along the coastal regions. Unlike typical Chinese-style fried rice, which can be heavy with soy sauce or dark sauces, Thai fried rice is lighter in colour and milder, focusing on natural ingredients like fresh crab and fragrant jasmine rice. It's often enjoyed in Bangkok's seafood eateries and is popular among both locals and tourists for its refined yet comforting taste. The use of crab dates back centuries in Thai cuisine, where seafood has been an integral part of the diet due to the country's extensive coastline.
