RE: Spooky Sourdoughs!

What a fun approach to baking!

Are you running the farmstand as well as doing all this baking, or did you hire someone to manage it?

Thanks Winston! The little market is self serve honour system 💗 Works really well, I just open it up in the morning, stock it and empty cash from the little lock box a few times a day and then lock it up at night. It's perfect because I can do all my work and errands and homeschool the boys and not have to be out there or pay someone.

Any theft that occurs is peanuts compared to my lost time or paying wages.

Oh wow, that's amazing! I know Canadians are supposed to be "nice" but this is on a whole new level.

The shoplifting in Boston is out of control. I've had my life threatened on several occasions confronting unruly and dangerous customers.

We had an elderly man come in and ask for a free cigarette. We don't have single cigarettes available, but the boss gave him -- for free! -- a cigar. The man stormed out and smashed the picture window. $2000 of damage! "What did you do that for," we asked. He yelled back, "I don't like cigars!"

We've been advised, by police officers, that it's time to get concealed carry permits and go armed. I think it's time for a new job! (Although my boss says the 60s and 70s were much worse.)

Wow, that's terrible and shocking, what an ungrateful wretch!

I find it hard to imagine the 60s and 70s being worse lol, did he give examples?

Well, there was a bus station across the street back then, and the playboy club (the whole Boston "Combat Zone" was in full swing), and break-ins and regular fights. You could tackle a shoplifter in those days and the police would support you. We did keep a .45 in the drawer then too.

Oh, and there was a gang-related firebombing of the flower shop next door, which caused the sprinkler system to come on and flood our entire store. It led to a complete insurance write-off of our inventory.

That flower shop location is now a Starbucks, so things have gentrified a little...
