Eating Wild Berries
My 'crops' pretty much failed this year. I'm not sure if it was due to the irregular weather patterns, or something else, but I just didn't get a good yield. To be fair, I also wasn't as enthusiastic as I've been in the past years, much evidenced by how few times I've posted about my garden this year compared to the years of the past. Perhaps that is a self fulfilling prophesy, in that, maybe, I didn't post much because they didn't do much.
Nevertheless, the wild crops did quite well. The birds have competed with me since I started plating crops in my garden. The birds have often outperformed me at this :). I'm talking about the corners of my garden with plants growing that I didn't actively plant, but were a result of birds pooping out seeds of fruits they'd consumed elsewhere.
Better still are the wild growing fruits, especially berries, which appear to have been wildly successful in my area. That's proof that my crops could have done well too. Could it be the variety of berries I planted? Maybe these wild ones are more resilient somehow. Also, nobody looks after these wild ones - they just grow. Maybe there's something different about the soil underneath them. Who knows.
Anyway, I decided to eat some of them haha. I usually never do this in the city due to all the pollution and the city behaviour of people.. but these ones are located in a relatively quiet part of the neighbourhood with very low traffic. They're also relatively higher up from the ground hence are very unlikely to have been wee'd on by someone or something. That having been said, I did wash them thoroughly haha. I just can't. I would and have in the countryside, but I just can't bring myself to eating wild fruits in London without washing them first. I've actually seen other people pick and eat these berries in this area, but, hey, each to their own 😂
Peace & Love,
