No puedo dejar de lado estos sabores de mi infancia además del toddy y en la actualidad el café con leche, el arroz con leche me trae a esos recuerdos de las meriendas en la tarde, así fuera caliente recién hecho que me dejaran la olla con el pegado o cuando ya se enfriaba el arroz con leche para comerlo en la merienda de las tardes al terminar la tarea. Sentada aquí me imagino pasando la cuchara por la olla y quemándome la boca tratando de obtener lo mejor de ella. Hay algo que la leche que nos calma, esa asociación con la madre y el mirar los ojos amorosos de una madre.

I can't let go of these flavors from my childhood, besides toddy, and now coffee with milk. Rice pudding brings back memories of afternoon snacks, whether it was freshly made hot and they left me the pot with the sticky residue, or when the rice pudding was already cold, ready to eat for an afternoon snack after finishing homework. Sitting here, I imagine running the spoon through the pot and burning my mouth trying to get the most out of it. There's something about milk that calms us, that association with our mothers and looking into a mother's loving eyes.
