Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
What's new with you? Is there something going on, or is it just the weather changing? Nothing special here. I've been out all day doing my usual activities. The weather won't change for the next 10 days either, say the weathermen. And since it's evening, I'll have a beer, as usual, for 414 #beersaturday. For fun and to mingle in the community.
Two bottles have been chilling in the fridge all day: one Croatian and one German, and I'm happy to share the beer experience with you.
First, the one with less alcohol.
Hladno Pivo Punk Rock Lager
Brewed by Pivovara Medvedgrad, Zagreb, Croatia.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.1% ABV, IBU 40. Pale lager style.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Punk rock lager, made for and in collaboration with the band Hladno pivo. This kraft lager is unlike any other; it's very drinkable, full-bodied and aromatic, and fans will recognise the band's eight albums on the label.
Now I understand the point. Otherwise, Hladno Pivo, as the name of the band and the name of the beer in English, means Cold Beer, hahaha.
The beer is golden in color, with an average and creamy head. It smells of hops and herbs. The first sip glides smoothly down the throat, with the sweetness of the malt and hints of honey appearing first on the palate, soon balanced by the bitterness of the hops and herbs.
Only a slight hop of bitterness remains in the aftertaste, which slowly fades away.
A very drinkable and tasty beer.
Harmonious and well-balanced, almost without additives. They did an excellent job for the band, I must admit. Unfortunately, it is not available in local shops; I found it in Rijeka, at the Konzum market, for €1.95.
But let's move on to taste a classic.
Paulaner Münchner Hell - Original Munich Lager
Brewed by Paulaner Brauerei, Munich, Germany.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.9% ABV, IBU 20. Helles lager style.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Our Original Munich Lager is a true classic with its clear and bright gold sparkling hue, crowned by a pure white head. A beer which always goes down well: mild, elegant malts, with a hint of sweetness and a soft hint of hops in the background. Just try it!
As far as I know, Paulaner is best known for its premium wheat beers, but let's be surprised. I have also tried a few of the classic Münchner Hell beers from other breweries, and they were good.
The beer is golden in color, and the head is average, disappearing quickly. It has no particular smell. It goes down smoothly, and in the mouth, I first taste a sweetness that is not very pronounced or extreme, followed by a pleasant hop bitterness that takes over and lingers in the aftertaste for a while.
The beer is drinkable and fresh, a genuinely original and classic Munich lager. A good beer, but nothing spectacular; no excesses that I could mention. It is available in local SPAR stores, priced at € 2.00.
I prefer Hladno Pivo because it has a bit stronger and more pronounced aroma than this one.
