Here's my entry for the BeerSaturday 411 with another black beer brewed by Herman. This time it's Littoral, a Baltic Porter. So far, I've enjoyed all the beers from this brewery. You'll find out if that's still the case with this Porter. And if you see little Star Wars Lego ships, it's not the alcool, that's normal 😀

Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 411 avec une autre bière noire brassée par Herman. Cette fois il s'agit de Littoral, une Porter Baltique. Pour le moment, j'ai apprécié toutes les bières de cette brasserie. Vous allez découvrir si c'est encore le cas avec cette Porter. Et si vous voyez des petits vaisseaux Star Wars Lego, c'est normal 😀

Here is the map of Quebec where I can show you precisely the location of the brewery. Herman is located in Prévost, at 955 chemin du Lac-Echo on the edge of the Petit Train du Nord, a 234 km bike path in the Laurentians. A bit of cycling and a good beer to cool down.

Herman is a craft brewery founded in December 2022 in the magnificent Laurentian region. Founded by four passionate friends, as is often the case in brewing adventures, Frédéric Pelletier, John Marcel Tremblay, Louis Morin and Louis-Philippe Beaudoin Morin, it quickly made a name for itself for its thirst-quenching, light and accessible beers. What's more, its location is ideal, accessible by bike in summer and nestled in the heart of the ski resorts in winter. Now well established in the region, Herman is tackling more complex and robust beers like Littoral.

Herman est une brasserie artisanale qui a vu le jour en décembre 2022 dans la magnifique région des Laurentides. Fondée par quatre amis passionnés, comme c'est souvent le cas dans les aventures brassicoles, Frédéric Pelletier, John Marcel Tremblay, Louis Morin et Louis-Philippe Beaudoin Morin, elle s'est rapidement fait remarquer pour ses bières de soif, légères et accessibles. En plus, son emplacement est idéal, accessible en vélo pendant la belle saison et nichée au cœur des stations de ski en hiver. Bien installé maintenant dans la région, Herman s'attaque à des bières plus complexes et robustes comme Littoral.

🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :

Littoral is a Baltic porter hopped with Nugget and boasting an alcohol content of 7.5%. This is an interesting choice of hops, as Nugget generally brings herbaceous and resinous notes that can counterbalance the malty richness typical of the style. For the record, this type of beer, Baltic Porter, comes from the Baltic countries, where brewers have adapted the stronger, richer English Porter to better withstand the harsh northern climate.
In the glass, you'll find a beautiful dark color with a very light brown head. The smell of dark chocolate is softened by the Nugget hops, which add a spicy, herbal touch. On the palate, I was pleasantly surprised by the refreshing character of this beer, despite its density. Another very good beer, I'm going to have beers from this brewery in my fridge a lot this summer. I hope to be able to take a tour of their facility soon.

La Littoral est une porter baltique houblonnée au Nugget avec un taux d'alcool de 7.5%. Ce choix de houblon est intéressant, car le Nugget apporte généralement des notes herbacées et résineuses qui peuvent contrebalancer la richesse maltée typique du style. Pour info, ce type de bière, Porter Baltique provient des pays baltiques où les brasseurs ont adapaté la Porter anglaise, plus forte et plus riche pour mieux résister au climat rigoureux du Nord.
Dans le verre, on retrouve une belle robe sombre avec une très légère mousse brune. On sent le chocolat noir adoucit par le houblon Nugget qui apporte une touche épicée et herbacée. En bouche, j'ai été agréablement surpris par le caractère rafraîchissant de cette bière, malgré sa densité. Encore une très bonne bière, il va avoir souvent des bières de cette brasserie dans mon frigo cet été. J'espère pouvoir bientôt faire un tour dans leur installation.

Design

The design, as usual with Herman, is quite uncluttered. But I like this simplicity. The color of the can is a quick reminder of what you're going to get in your glass, you can't go wrong 😀.

Le design, comme d'habitude chez Herman est assez épuré. Mais j'aime bien cette simplicité. La couleur de la canette rappelle rapidement ce qu'on va avoir dans notre verre, on ne peut pas se tromper 😀.
