With the arrival of September, when the students go to their schools and when the projects that were sleeping in the "summer sleep" are reactivated at work, the last beats of summer are felt.
The #Summervibes are slowly winding down, and I use every sunny and warm day to treat myself to a favorite treat.
Because only on hot summer days, ice cream, which I love, pleases me for cooling down.
Let's not lie, I can eat ice cream as a treat even in the middle of winter, but in summer, when the temperatures are high outside, ice cream tastes even better.
When I found myself in Apatin in the middle of July, meeting with Hive friends at the Apatin #HiveMeetup, it was summer, but it was not a warm day, more like autumn, because it was raining that day.
But that didn't stop us from stopping by and trying the Apatin ice cream when passing by two confectionery shops in the pedestrian area, which offer ice cream.
There are two pastry shops next to each other.
In order not to make a mistake, we waited for one of our hosts, a native of Apatin @flurroland, to direct us to the "best" one.
Pastry shop "Odžačanka", which has been operating in Apatin for only 15 years, has a long family tradition of making ice cream and after the establishment of the company in Belgrade, about 150 years ago, moved to Odžaci, a place next to Apatin, where it operated until 15 years ago the offer was extended to Apatin.
A few meters from Odžačanka, competition.
Pastry shop "Pčela", which has been in this place for 45 years.
I believe that the ice cream in Odžačanka is good, but...
For the reason that @flurroland mentioned "I like the ice cream at Pčela better", or maybe because we want to try the ice cream that has been made only in Apatin for a long time, not to mention that Pčela has more to do with Košnica (Hive) than Odžak (Chimney), we decide to go into Pčela and have a look at their offer.
At first glance, the price written on a piece of cardboard above the display case with ice creams seems tempting.
A scoop of ice cream for 100 dinars (so that's only 0.85€) is, in terms of prices in Belgrade, where I live, a very low price
An additional surprise was when @mipiano asked if it was possible to mix flavors?
Why not, I thought. "Take the flavor scoops you want?"
"Ah, no, no, Duskobgd, you can mix one scoop here".
How is that, I thought and let a more experienced ice cream lover order first.
The young man standing behind the display case takes a cone and puts one scoop of one flavor and then another scoop of another flavor.
Okay, two scoops, I still don't understand anything?
I missed the other members of our small group @bil.prag, @ph1102 and @flurroland
Everyone did the same, two scoops of different flavors in one cone.
In the end, that's what I did too.
When I asked for the bill, only then I understand the pricing policy.
Although the price list says 1 scoop of ice cream = 100 dinars, in fact, for 100 dinars you get two scoops of ice cream.
At the same time, I was both sorry and glad that I don't live in Apatin.
Sorry because here I would be at the source of super tasty and cheap ice cream, and glad, because the amount of ice cream I would eat in that case would probably affect my health 🙂.
I imagine myself entering Pčela and asking for three scoops of ice cream (which is my standard when eating ice cream in my favorite Belgrade pastry shops), and I get six 😀
I can't claim that the taste and quality of ice cream from Pčela is better than in Belgrade's Special pastry shop, but one scoop of ice cream in Pčela costs 50 dinars (0.43e), while in the Belgrade pastry shop, such a scoop is 150 dinars (1.3e).
And ice cream and this story about the Pčela pastry shop in Apatin, I remembered when I was choosing ice cream a few days ago in the favorite Thessaloniki pastry shop Fregio.
The price of ice cream in Thessaloniki is even higher than in Belgrade.
In Fregio, one scoop (one flavor) costs 2.5e, while the price for mixing flavors, when you get two scoops of ice cream, is 3.5e.
Comparison with the price in Apatin, really makes no sense.
I can only imagine how a Thessaloniki resident would feel in Apatin, if for the price of one taste of ice cream in Thessaloniki, in Apatin in Pčela, he would get 5 scoops!
