Hi there. In this travel post, our travel group do a day trip from Guangzhou, China to Zhuhai. Zhuhai is a tier 2 China city that is near Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China and Macau.
Guangzhou South Railway Station Revisited
We return to Guangzhou South Railway station. The train ride from Guangzhou to Zhuhai was around 45 minutes for 1 way. Ticket costs were not too high. Something like under 20 per person. (I have to check receipts.)
Here are a few pictures.
Shopping Areas By Zhuhai Railway Station
Upon exiting the Zhuhai Railway Station, we were not sure to go left or right. With Google Maps and a VPN service, going right was the answer. There was also a sign board to confirm our direction.
We stumble upon a shopping mall with restaurants inside. It was around lunch time so we get something to eat and then shop around.
Notes On Gongbei Port And Zhuhai-Macau Border
Zhuhai is not a megacity but it is an important city that is near Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau. There are no direct train routes from Guangzhou, China to Macau. Instead you have to go to Zhuhai from Guangzhou by train. Then you exit the train station, go to your right and find the Gongbei port area. That is where you go through security and customs to go to Macau.
Near the border there is a large underground like shopping area. You can find SIM card mobile stores, clothing shops, restaurants and other shops. This shopping area is a scaled down version compared to Guangzhou's wholesale clothing market. It is still big.
South China Sea Area
If you keep walking past the Gongbei port, you do end up seeing the South China Sea. There was a fair bit of walking. Summer 2024 was really hot in China. The weather was in the mid 30 degrees Celsius. Here are many pictures.
Portuguese Style Egg Tarts In Zhuhai, China
We walked back to the shopping area for some rest and snacks. Our train back was around 5PM. We had around 90 minutes to use up.
I wanted to try some Portugese Egg Tarts. The original plan was to try them in Macau but if they are available in Zhuhai then why not. The bakery place was called GoodMama. (Where is Good Papa?)
I think the price of these 4 egg tarts was around 6 CAD after currency exchange. They were pretty good. The black one was interesting as it contained tapioca balls. It is the same tapioca balls you find in bubble tea.
We head back to Guangzhou on the return trip train around 5PM. After that we get dinner, walk around near our hotel and rest.
