Tewel, also known as young jackfruit, has many ways to be prepared at home. Any dish, no matter why, is delicious when prepared from it. Young jackfruit is very easy to get in my area, usually I get it for free from neighbors to make vegetables as a side dish at home. Well therefore young jackfruit becomes a mainstay when I will process anything from it.
Spicy Tewel Suir Melinjo Leaf
Young jackfruit is cooked with chili seasoning which has a spicy flavor then combined with melinjo leaves. Well interestingly this dish is very easy to make but has a very good taste. Well as we know young jackfruit is often a mainstay menu as a substitute for vegetable meat. In fact, there are so many amazingly delicious vegetable dishes processed from it. And I tried almost all of them can replace meat.
This shredded tewel preparation is indeed very popular in my area, usually it is processed using additional anchovies or other animal products. However, I wanted a delicious vegan-based flavor because I was curious about the taste even though it was processed with plant-based products.
Ingredients Needed
50 grams of melinjo leaves
5 green chili peppers
5 red chili peppers
10 cayenne pepper
4 cloves shallots
2 cloves of garlic
Cooking Procedure
Cut or shred jackfruit to a small size, now here it is recommended to cook jackfruit to cut the size smaller so that the spices are easily absorbed.
Next, cut the melinjo leaves into small pieces too or according to your taste.
Finely chop all shallots and garlic. Next, red, green and cayenne pepper in a rough blender only.
Saute shallots and garlic with a little cooking oil until wilted.
Add the chili that has been mashed, then cook until the spices dry out a bit.
Next add the jackfruit stew that has been cut into small pieces, stir until evenly distributed in the seasoning then add the melinjo leaves.
Stir again and season with salt here I add ½ teaspoon of salt. Then cook until everything is cooked, don't forget to correct the taste.
Result
I am so happy that the tewel or young jackfruit cooked with melinjo leaves is ready to be served. This dish is spicy, if you don't like spicy I don't recommend you to try this recipe maybe even if you can you can compensate the use of non-spicy chili. Now this dish is very good eaten straight or even with a mixture of warm rice. In Indonesia itself this is a side dish to enjoy with rice during the day is very appropriate.
