Vegan lovers, after the Eid celebrations, there are plenty of cookies available at home—both sweet and savory. For me, crispy cookies are a must-have staple at home because they have a distinctive flavor that everyone in the family loves. Besides main meals, cookies also play a significant role in major celebrations, which is why I prepare them well in advance of the festivities. I set aside several jars, and of course, I save one jar for myself to enjoy later.

This recipe features a crispy and sweet treat made from peanuts with a cute shape. The caramel glaze enhances the flavor with an unusual texture.

Intip Peanut

Intip Peanuts are one of Indonesia’s favorite snacks. This crunchy treat is incredibly easy to make and boasts a delicious, sweet, and savory flavor with a satisfyingly crisp texture. So why is it called “Peek-a-Peek”? Because the peanuts are hidden within a layer of wonton wrappers, which perfectly complements the texture and flavor.

Ingredients

100 grams of peanuts
20 wonton wrappers
100 grams of granulated sugar
20 grams of sesame seeds
2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
Water as needed

Cooking Procedure

Toast the peanuts until they’re fully cooked so they’ll be perfectly cooked when wrapped in the dough.

Cut the wonton wrappers into four square pieces, or divide them further as desired.

Then make a flour paste as an adhesive for wrapping the peanuts; mix with water until thick. Now, for the wonton wrappers, I separate them one by one so they don’t stick together.

Then take 1 wonton wrapper, add the peanut paste on the top and bottom, and roll it lengthwise while pinching the corners. Repeat until finished.

Then add 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar to the hot oil; wait until the sugar caramelizes, then fry the pastries while stirring.

Make sure the caramel sticks to the pastries. Once cooked, while still hot, separate the pastries and sprinkle them with sesame seeds.

Result

The result was just right. Although the first batch had too much sugar and was too sweet for my taste, I reduced the amount of sugar in the next batch, and the result was exactly what I wanted. The sweet and savory balance was perfect—I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I’ll definitely make it again.

The texture is incredibly crispy, the nuts are perfectly roasted, and the wonton wrappers—which I didn’t think would turn out well—turned out just right. And most importantly, it saves me time compared to making wonton wrappers from scratch at home. So, just buying the instant ones gives the same great results.
