Since I am a freelance worker, sometimes I don’t have work. Like today. So here I was, in my town, where I live with my family.
It was still morning, my kids has gone to school. The neigborhood around my house is quiet. The neighbour had gone to work. So, it is just me and my wife at home.
After having a routine morning coffee, my wife asked me to go to the garden near our house. We had to walk pass few house to arrive at then end of the road where the garden is located by the river. This garden is actually community-owned, you could say, because anyone can grow or harvest something from there. There are a few banana trees—some already have ripe bananas, but we didn’t harvest them. We felt other people might planted them. Some bugenvillea flowers also growing there. Some other plant like sweet potato. cassava and moringa.
There was a moringa tree growing in the garden near the river. We looked at the tree, and it had many branches and leaves—perfect for making vegetable soup. We cut a few branches to get the leaves. After we collected the leaves, we just threw the branches away. I tossed them into another part of the garden, thinking maybe they would grow into new moringa trees.
We had a bunch of moringa leaves. My wife planned to mix them with some corn and make the soup.
Getting home my wife prepared the moringa soup. When it was ready, she prepared it along with steamed rice, sambal, and fish which was wrapped with banana leaves and steamed. It was simple but delicous breakfast.
