On one of those days when my desire to cook and socialise was very high, I came up with the idea of having a communal dinner at the hostel. Since I learned how to make homemade pizzas, I try to do it every now and then to see how my recipe is going, and so far, it has been working very well. That time, in the previous days we had formed a nice group of Couchsurfing guests and friends, so it seemed like a good idea to share a meal together. Cooking for so many people required a lot of hands, but at the end of the day we all ended up with satisfied stomachs 😃.
En uno de esos días en los que tenía muy elevadas mis ganas de cocinar y también de sociabilizar, se me ocurrió la idea de hacer una cena comunitaria en el hostel. Desde que aprendí a hacer pizzas caseras, cada tanto trato de hacer para ver cómo va mi receta, y hasta el momento, viene funcionando muy bien. Esa vez, en los días anteriores habíamos formado un lindo grupo de huéspedes y amigos de Couchsurfing, por lo que me pareció buena idea compartir una comida entre todos. Cocinar para tantas personas requirió muchas manos, pero al final de la jornada todos terminamos con el estómago satisfecho 😃.
What I like about hostel life are the moments of spontaneous sharing. I always enjoy the meetings and the long tables with food that are generated to exchange travel experiences and good times. That's why whenever I could, I organised small meetings, but as I didn't like anyone to be left out, the day I organised the pizza dinner the day before I extended a public invitation to everyone. In order to cover the cost of cooking for everyone, I asked each guest for a contribution of $3.5 to buy the ingredients I needed.
Lo que me gusta de la vida de hostel son los momentos que se generan para compartir espontáneamente. Siempre disfruto de las reuniones y de las largas mesas con comida que se generan para intercambiar experiencias de viaje y buenos momentos. Era por eso que siempre que podía, organizaba pequeñas reuniones, pero como no me gustaba que quedara nadie afuera, el día que organicé la cena de pizzas el día anterior extendí una invitación pública para todos. Para poder afrontar los gastos de cocinar para todos, a cada huésped pedí una colaboración de $3.5 para poder comprar los ingredientes que necesitaba.
With all the money I collected, I managed to buy 3 kg of flour with yeast, ingredients for tomato sauce, cheese and some additional ingredients to put on the pizzas. Luckily, some of the guests were enthusiastic about the idea and accompanied me to buy and subsequently do all the preparation. My idea was to eat at 9 PM, so by 7 PM we had already started with all the preparations. That day I had two star helpers: Iuri from Brazil and Edgar from Argentina, who were in charge of helping me with the dinner from start to finish. Each of the three of us prepared a kilo of dough from which 4 or 5 pizzas were made.
Con todo el dinero que reuní, logré comprar 3 kg de harina con levadura, ingredientes para salsa de tomate, queso y algunos ingredientes adicionales para ponerle a las pizzas. Por suerte, algunos de los huéspedes estaban entusiasmados con la idea y me acompañaron a comprar y posteriormente hacer toda la preparación. Mi idea era comer a las 9 PM, por lo que a las 7 ya habíamos empezado con todos los preparativos. Ese día tuve dos ayudantes estrella: Iuri de Brasil y Edgar de Argentina, quienes se encargaron de ayudarme con la cena desde principio a fin. Cada uno de nosotros tres preparó un kilo de masa de donde salieron 4 o 5 pizzas base.

This pizza cooking team worked very well and we managed to finish dinner for everyone just in time. In total, we managed to make about 14 pizzas and everyone ate until they couldn't eat any more. The diners praised our homemade pizzas, but also pointed out how different they were from the pizzas they eat at home. Personally, I always prefer our homemade pizzas with plenty of thick dough: I've tried the Yankee-style pizzas and didn't like them at all.
Este equipo cocinero de pizzas funcionó muy bien y logramos terminar la cena para todos justo a tiempo. En total, logramos hacer unas 14 pizzas y todos comieron hasta que no podían más. Los comensales elogiaron nuestras pizzas caseras, aunque también destacaron la diferencia con las que prueban en sus lugares de origen. En lo personal, siempre prefiero nuestras pizzas caseras con bastante masa gruesa: alguna vez he probado la de estilo yankee y no me gustaron del todo.
Among the varieties we made were mozzarella, tomato, ham, egg and rocket pizzas. One that some people found controversial was the sausage and mustard pizza. They said it was like eating hot dogs with pizza mixed in, but I thought it was a good idea and that's why I bought those ingredients. Anyway, despite the comments, there were no portions of this flavour left either, so it wasn't too bad.
Entre las variedades que hicimos habían pizzas de muzzarella, de tomate, de jamón, huevo y rúcula. Una que a varios les pareció polémica fue la de salchichas con mostaza. Dijeron que era como comer panchos con pizza mezclado, pero a mí me había parecido una buena idea y por eso compré esos ingredientes. De todas formas, a pesar de los comentarios, tampoco quedaron porciones de este sabor, así que tan mal no estaba.
I am happy to say that after all, the Pizza Party was a success. It was what I expected to happen, all the guests came together and shared a good time. I think the hostel atmosphere should have this friendly spark and being the one to come up with the idea to make it happen made me happy. I hope at least to have achieved a good memory among those who spent those days there, and of course, that they remember how delicious the lovingly made pizzas were 💕.
Me alegra decir que al fin de todo, el Pizza Party fue todo un éxito. Sucedió lo que yo esperaba que pase, que todos los huéspedes se reunieran y compartieran un buen momento. Pienso que el ambiente de hostel debe tener esta chispa amigable y ser yo quien proponga la idea para que eso ocurra me hacía feliz. Espero al menos haber logrado un buen recuerdo entre los que pasaron por ahí esos días, y por supuesto, que se acuerden de lo deliciosas que nos quedaron las pizzas hechas con mucho cariño ❤️.
