Hello there dear Hivers! I hope you're all in good shape!😉
Do you know what food is this?
This is "Batchoy". It is a traditional Filipino noodle soup that originated in La Paz, Iloilo, and is often referred to as La Paz Batchoy. My grandmother is from Maasin, Iloilo. My grandmother is half blood Chinese, no wonder she is kind'a "noodle fan", and she loves eating batchoy. And because of this, "batchoy" became our regular meal then.
Yesterday, after the heavy rain and right after I fetch my son from his school, we had the perfect chance to stop by one of our town's famous Batchoy spots- Lab's Old Timer La Paz Batchoy. Well, for me nothing really beats a hot bowl of comfort after the rain!😉
This establishment is located in the Poblacion of the City of Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat. It is just a small cozy place , but they serve wide variety of food. The ambience is good and the place inside is clean and well-organized.
As we enter the restaurant, we were surprised to see a lot people are also there, savoring their batchoy. I just wasn't expecting such crowd. and who knew that after the rain, some of them would go out from their home just get some a warm, savory sip too! 😅
At Lab's Old Timer La Paz Batchoy, there are several types of batchoy to choose from: Ordinary, Special, and they even have Extra Special. Each one offering a richer flavor and more generous toppings, they only differ with toppings like eggs, pork liver, and "chicharon". By the way a chicharon is a popular filipino snack made from deep-fried pork skin. And this if the perfect topping for batchoy!
We went straight to the order counter to order batchoy. We ordered three "extra special batchoy" which contains additional eggs, pork liver, and "chicharon". (Ordinary once doesn't have these mentioned toppings.) Of course, aside from batchoy, we ordered a plain bread - we called it "pandesal", as this bread is perfect combo for the noodle soup.
In this restaurant, they don't only serve batchoy. They also serve some short orders like: Fresh and Fried Spring Roll - we call it "lumpia", "Palabok" - another Filipino food made with thin rice noodles, with rich, savory sauce and colorful toppings, Hamburger, *Siopao *- typically a steamed bun filled with savory meat, French fries Inasal ni JOse - a Chicken Inasal - grilled chicken barbecue with a cup of rice, fresh fruit and macaroni salad, Halo-halo - a beloved Filipino dessert whose name literally means "mix mix", and a lot more which can be found in their main menu. And of course, beverages and juices like Coca Cola are always available.😉
Mind you, all of these are affordable and 100% authentic!
Me and my son really enjoyed a lot sipping batchoy as this also became his favorite noodle soup ( of course, I introduced him to it when he was younger.) And in fact he was the first to finished his bowl among the three of us!😄🍜.
We were all fully satisfied with what we ordered at Lab’s Old Timer La Paz Batchoy — happy tummies and happy hearts as we headed back home. 😊🍜🏠
If you ever get the chance to visit, don’t miss this authentic batchoy restaurant—you definitely won’t regret it!
