A Thankful Evening: From Mum's Kitchen to Taiwan & Sarawak Flavours

in Daily Blog8 days ago

Mum is cooking again!!!

Let's see what she prepares. I can see minced pork marinated and prawns marinated. I saw her boiling cabbages. Yuhooo! Better leave the kitchen before she may say I'm blocking the way because my kitchen is narrow.

1.5 hours later, dinner was served!

That was fast. I went to kitchen to take photo. Saw the beautiful golden fried prawn balls and a pot of cabbage soup.

For the prawns, she used the Bestari brand of original flavour flour for deep frying. I tried one and it was so delicious, sure would be 'cleaned up' fast!

And another bowl of all-in-one soup — with sweet cabbages, carrots and minced pork ball. The soup was so flavourful from the stir fry onion, the fragrance of onions in the soup was irresistible. I had a bowl of soup, such a delight to the soul.

The children really enjoyed their dinner!

Out for dinner with my husband!

I had told my Mum earlier I wouldn't be eating at home because I had planned a dinner out with husband. So my parents and my children were happily eating at home the food my Mum cooked while I was out with husband.

We went to nearby community mall because there was a new stall opening at the food court there. It is called WaTaiwan Eats. From the name, we know it will be selling all Taiwan food..this stall brought so much memories of years ago when we travelled to Taiwan.

Husband ordered oyster mee sua, one 3-cup chicken and a braised tofu. Wow, the mee sua was really authentic Taiwan style like those Shihlin Mee Sua. And the 3-cup chicken was so soft juicy with flavourful sauce. The braised tofu came with minced pork too with savoury sauce. Yum!

As usual, I ordered my comfort food from the Sarawak Noodle House. This time, instead of ordering the usual Sarawak kolok mee, I chose the vermicelli. Still so yummy and homely.

Ever so grateful for good times together. And heart full of thanksgiving that despite bad economically, we still have food to eat daily. Let's be thankful for little things in life.

As I lay down at the end of the day, I felt so blessed. Nothing extravagant. Nothing perfect. Just warm food, familiar flavours, and time spent with people I love. In a world that often feels uncertain and heavy, days like this remind me that joy can still be found in simple meals, shared laughter, and the comfort of knowing we are cared for. These are the moments I want to remember, and the blessings I never want to take for granted.

Everything looks sooooo good. 🤤 The restaurant food, yes, but we all know mom's is the best! I've never eaten any of this before, but I'd try it all and I'm 99% sure I'd be thrilled. It can't possibly taste bad if it looks this good!

Beautiful family, too!

The pleasure of eating with family and the privilege of your mother's hands in every detail... I'm so happy for you!
