My Hobbies: Mama's Cucumber Died but Mine Survived ft. Palitaw sa Dahon ng Saging

in Daily Blog22 days ago
I decide how to use my free time, and since I have plenty of it, I spend it on my hobbies.

It is truly amazing what nature can offer when we are giving time and effort to grow life in our backyard. Ever since I was a child, I had a heart for plants because my father is a farmer. One thing that kept our family fed three times a day was that my father sold vegetables. Well, aside from the fact that our viand is free, it's fresh and healthy to eat.

I grew up loving to eat vegetables. The day will cry if I didn't have greeny soup. It's a good thing right?

Saluyot,Kangkong, Chili leaves

The saluyot grows every rainy season along with kulitis and alum-alom. They are a perfect match in a soup. It's one of my favorite vegetables because of it's slimy texture.

My mama planted the kangkong, mainly to feed the pigs but my uncle's ducks secretly ate them whenever they snuck into our backyard. Last time, they ate everything and left only a few stalks so Mama got mad and told my uncle about it.

As for the chili leaves, papa transplanted them so it will be easier for us to pick some whenever we want to cook tinola or other dishes with those leaves.

Mama's Cucumber

What's truly amazing to me is that we grow this cucumbers in our backyard. Mama planted them first and encouraged me to try planting them as well because she believes I have a "miraculous hand". Lol.
Unfortunately, her cucumber didn't survive. We don't know the reason why it happened. Maybe it was the weather, or is it possible that we made a mistake while growing them?

My Cucumber 🥒

On the other hand, mine grew but didn't produce many baby fruits(Bukol or putot). Maybe it's because I planted them in a pot which was why the nutrients in the soil was limited to the fruits. But I am still happy seeing them every day with all those flowers. The green sight always makes my day. I thought they would not survive as well, but thankfully they did. To be honest, I don't eat cucumber. I just love planting them because my sister loves them.

Watering the plants is one of my daily routines. It lets me check on the status of the plants.

Alugbati, camote, squash seeds

Sadly, the camote and alugbati I planted in an old rice sack didn't survive because I picked some leaves after they bloomed. They never grew back. But the camote I planted directly in the soil grew abundantly.

Since it was rainy season, I decided to plant squash too, and I found a nice spot for it to grow. I just planted it in the corner. Let's see if I can grow it as well.

Palitaw sa Dahon ng Saging

Eating is a highlight of my day . Recently, I have noticed that I have been eating a lot and I am worried I'll regret it later.

After a tiring day, I decided to make palitaw. I had no idea what I was doing, but I gave it a shot- and it actually turned out right! I just mix ground malagkit rice with a bit of water, shaped it, and place each piece on banana leaves. Then I boiled water in a cooking pan and drop them in until they floated and were cooked. I sprinkled sugar on top to add flavor.

This ends my blog. Thank you for reading and stopping by. Love lots 😘
