There have been many times I have eaten food outside my home, but one experience I can never forget happened when I had just gained admission into university. It was during my early days on the campus.
One day after classes, I and some others were very hungry and decided to try a particular restaurant around the school. Since we had heard people talk about it and saw students going there often, we felt it would be a good idea to see for ourselves if their food was actually worth it. At that time, I was hungry enough to eat almost anything, so I was honestly looking forward to having a satisfying meal.
When we got there, I transferred the money for the food and showed them my receipt as proof of payment. After that, I was given a ticket, which I then used to collect my food. I chose jollof rice with meat because it seemed like the safest option and also one of mfavouriteses. As they were serving me, I became even more excited because the quantity looked impressive. For the amount I paid, they really served a large portion, and at first glance, it felt like I had made a very good choice. The meat looked decent too, so I was already imagining how enjoyable the meal would be.
But the excitement disappeared immediately. I took the first spoon. The taste was disappointing. There was no real flavour, no sweetness, and nothing about it, which made me enjoy eating it. I naturally have a sweet tooth, and I pay attention to taste whenever I eat, so I could easily tell that the food was not properly cooked or lacked the right ingredients. It was one of those meals that look attractive but fail completely when it comes to taste. At that moment, I realized it had quantity but no quality at all.
Even though I did not enjoy it, I still forced myself to eat a good part of it because I was very hungry and I did not want my money to waste. I kept telling myself that maybe it would still fill my stomach, xand that would be enough.
Unfortunately, that was not the end of the story. After some time, my stomach started reacting badly. I began having serious stomach upset and had to rush to the toilet repeatedly. I visited the toilet so many times that day that I lost count. It became a very uncomfortable and frustrating experience, and honestly, I regretted eating there.
That single experience was enough for me to make up my mind, never to buy food from that restaurant again. Since then, I have always been careful about where I eat, especially around school, because one bad meal can easily ruin an entire day.
