Yours looks good and I bet it tasted as good as it looks. The Mother Thing knew what she was doing.
When I make a pot roast I always flour the meat and brown it in a skillet with a little oil, after it is brown I put it in the crockpot and use the drippings to make gravy, I leave it thick because I add it to the crockpot with the other juices and they will thin it out.
