The day before the beautiful day on Tara mountain among wild flowers, which I wrote about in my previous post, we spent the day on the Bukulja mountain.

It was an amazing mountain weekend. Less than 100 kilometers from Belgrade in Serbia, Bukulja Mountain, near the charming town of Arandjelovac, makes for a perfect one-day getaway combining history, delicious local food, and the natural environment we always crave.

Our day actually started in Orašac, the birthplace of the First Serbian Uprising. We visited the museum dedicated to Karađorđe, whose story played a significant role in Serbian history. I'll share more about Orašac in my next blog, but Karađorđe unexpectedly remained part of our journey. By lunchtime, we found ourselves at Restaurant Bukulja, where we couldn't resist ordering Karađorđeva šnicla, one of Serbia's best-known traditional dishes and a fitting choice after spending the morning learning about the man who inspired its name.

As delicious as the schnitzel was, the real surprise came in the form of a simple plate of oyster mushrooms. The "bukovače" mushrooms were absolutely phenomenal, perfectly seasoned, wonderfully tender, and easily one of the best mushroom dishes I've ever had. If you ever visit Bukulja, don't leave without trying them. They alone are worth the trip.

After lunch, we headed to the Bukulja viewpoint.

The short uphill walk and climbing the stairs quickly paid off with spectacular panoramic views over central Serbia.

Rolling green hills, dense forests, and picturesque villages stretched as far as the eye could see. It was one of those places where you naturally slow down, breathe a little deeper, and simply enjoy the moment.

Bukulja may not be the most famous mountain in Serbia, but that's exactly part of its charm. It's peaceful, easy to reach, and offers everything you need for a memorable day trip: fascinating history nearby, authentic local cuisine, and incredible views.
Thank you for reading.
