Hello everyone. In the previous post I wrote that in the next one I would write about a walk through the old town of Lovran and today is that day. The day when I will share my impressions from this charming town with you.
We arrived in Lovran around 12, walked a little along the coast and met my husband's sister and brother-in-law, and then we said goodbye to them and went to the old town alone, to take a peek into the past of this inspiring town.
Walking through the narrow cobblestone streets of Lovran's old town really felt like stepping into another time, much more beautiful and fairytale-like.
Inside the centuries-old stone walls, everything slowed down. We listened to light Croatian music and our footsteps echoing on the pebbled street.
In places like this I always feel at home and as if I was here a long time ago, but I wasn't. I was just born in another coastal town in Croatia that reminds me of others.
Exploring the old town of Lovran felt like wandering through the past. This place was first mentioned in the 7th century and then there was a small settlement around the Church of St. George.
Our walk led us to tavern Marun, a cozy place and an old restaurant with very good traditional cuisine.
It is located right in the old town and has been building its tradition since 1977, with authentic, delicious food, prepared with a lot of love. The owner who served us also works as a waiter while his wife and daughter prepare the food. He told us that he worked in Sicily and that he learned a lot there, for example that white truffles are of much better quality and more delicious than black truffles, but that they are rare, so finding them is really lucky.
We ate tagliatelle with shrimps and spinach and ravioli with tomatoes, olives and spinach. And of course, we drank Malvasia, the famous Istrian wine.
Such moments mean a lot to me. Good tastes, good surroundings... The owner of the tavern was very kind, a real host and we would like to come back here at least once more in our life. Lovran won our hearts.
Thank you for reading.
