Last month, my family decided to take short trip together. The idea came up because it was my uncle’s birthday, and he wished for a peaceful day away from the usual routine, and that is how we ended up deciding to visit the Mantayupan Falls in Barili, Cebu.

We traveled from San Remigio, so the ride was quite long. The whole trip took around four hours, but we made it comfortable by renting a van that could fit all of us. It was a good decision because we did not have to worry about catching buses, transferring rides, or squeezing in with other commuters. The van gave us the chance to relax and talk with each other while on the way. The ride felt smooth and quiet, as if the whole day was already setting the tone for what was ahead.
When we finally arrived at Mantayupan Falls, the first thing we noticed was the sound of water. It had a calming effect, almost like it was welcoming us. Before we entered the main area, we paid the entrance fee which was around 50 pesos per person.

Walking into the site felt refreshing. You see trees, hear the water flowing, and feel the cool breeze around you. The place had a sense of quiet that made the long ride worth it. The area is known for having two levels of waterfalls. The first one is smaller and easier to reach, but still beautiful in its own way. Water flows gently into a clear pool, and it already gives you that relaxing feeling even before seeing the bigger falls.

To get to the main waterfall, we crossed the hanging bridge. It swayed a little as we walked, but that added a small thrill to the experience. From there, we followed the path until we reached the tall cascade. The main falls were impressive. The water dropped from a great height and landed into a deep basin that looked cool and refreshing. The sound echoed across the area and blended with the rustling leaves.

What stood out to me was how natural and untouched everything looked. There were no loud crowds when we came, and the place felt like a quiet corner of nature that allowed you to breathe deeply. The water was clean and clear. The rocks around the basin were smooth. Even the slight mist from the falls felt comforting. It was easy to appreciate the beauty of the place because it had that simple and steady charm that nature often gives.

We spent a good part of the day there. Some of my family members swam, while others stayed on the side just dipping their feet in the cool water. A few of us sat on the rocks and watched the waterfall, enjoying the moment. My uncle seemed happy with how his birthday turned out. He said he wanted something peaceful and that was exactly what he got. It was nice to see him relaxed and surrounded by family in a place that felt far from stress.

As the day went on, we took photos, shared food, and talked about how long it had been since we had a family trip like this. The whole experience reminded us of how good it feels to step away from our usual routines and simply exist in a quiet place. Mantayupan Falls became more than a destination. It became a space where we paused and reconnected.
It was a simple trip, but it carried a peaceful memory that stays with you long after you leave. Mantayupan Falls gave us a slow and refreshing escape, and it was the perfect birthday getaway for my uncle and the rest of us.
