I love losing myself in its lively rhythm—the carefully stacked goods, the vendors calling out their products, people inspecting, touching, and carefully choosing what to buy. And, of course, the food: a feast of flavors that smells like seasoning and tradition.

Whenever I can, I try to visit this "people’s market," because places like this are, at their core, a window into a country’s soul. A space where everyday rituals—the haggling, the quick greetings between familiar faces, the back-and-forth of carts—tell stories without words.

Paloquemao, though maze-like, has clearly defined sections. There’s the flower area, sprawling and located outside the market, where colors explode in bouquets of every kind. And inside, a universe of local fruits and aromatic herbs. It was there, between curious glances and impulse buys, that I managed to snap a few photos.

But there’s something that drew me here the first time and became an excuse to return: palo santo. Those sticks of fragrant wood, burned slowly, releasing their distinctively sweet, woody scent. I find it curious because, literally, it’s a "palo que quema" (a stick that burns). Yet I doubt—and don’t actually know—if that’s truly the origin of this market’s name.
