As you said, it usually doesn't go the way that you had hoped when you take the less expensive route. I'm pretty lucky that my buddy can do a lot of this handy man stuff when I get in over my head. He isn't cheap, but he knows his stuff, and I don't like feeling as though I am taking advantage of him, so I am happy to pay. He does give me a bit of a discount :)

It's good to have mates that can do stuff; I have a good group as well but due to the nature of this job, which needs certification, I'm going to use a professional which gives me legal recourse.
That makes a lot of sense. You don't want to end up on the bad side of the inspectors!
