Courage to ask my unexpected Banga soup story

It's amazing how some times we talk about the things we want but are too lazy or not courageous enough to take the bold steps in order to get the things we need

Some years ago I was in a meeting and the convener of the program said if you want something bad enough and you work towards it you will get it done

Recently I also listened to a popular social media influencer who said he would rather die trying than not to try out all

There's a particular local dish from my place called Banga soup prepared with palm nut fruit used for production of palm oil.

This is a food common to the South-South people of Nigeria, and so here in the Southwest it isn't very common even though there are palm trees around; they are harvested majorly for the production of palm oil.

I went out on Thursday and came across some staff of my school, where I just graduated, harvesting the palm fruit for the production of palm oil, and while I was there, I was just talking to the people around me about how long ago I had tasted banga soup.

And that it would be so great if I could get some of the palm nut to make Banga soup for myself. They laughed at me since they didn't know about it, but I kept talking about it.

By now an idea had formed in my head to meet with the people harvesting and just ask for a little with which I could make the soup.

But then I thought to myself, what if they said no? And then I said it out loud. After saying it, I said again, "The worst answer I could get was a no, but I didn't let that stop me."

I made up my mind that I was going to meet one of the women that was helping to pick up the pieces of palm fruits that fell away from the bunch.

Then I said to myself, I don't understand the Yoruba dialect. How was I going to communicate? So I decided to beg someone to follow me, and we met a man who was like a supervisor, and he said no and that it was school property, but then as we were about leaving, we met with one of the women that was gathering the palm fruit.

And after a brief explanation of what I wanted to do with the palm fruit, she asked if we had a bag to put it in. I quickly rushed to get a nylon, and the woman was generous because she gave me what I could use to make soup at least twice.

I was so happy i bought out money to appreciate her but she wouldn't collect I tried to persuade her but she didn't collect it and in the end I was so happy because I got what I wanted

Sometimes we allow our assumptions to stop us from taking steps we should take in life, and so we don't get the desired results.

I went to the woman, and when she asked if I had a bag, I had to run back to look for a nylon. Sometimes we make decisions unprepared for what's coming and then lose out because we weren't prepared in the first place.

The woman could have changed her mind between the time I ran to get the bag and came back; thank God she didn't.

So when we approach situations, we should approach them with an open mind, believing that the situation could go our way. Sometimes it's not the case, but other times you may just get what you desire.

Finally, when opportunity meets with preparation, success is inevitable. I saw an opportunity; I approached it, but I wasn't prepared. Luckily, I got a second chance.

So what is that thing you wrote on your bucket list for the year 2026? The year has already done 2 months. Please plan, prepare, and take actions, and you will definitely get the desired result.
