Breaking Up with Sugary Drinks and Fried Food (Kind Of)

in GEMS7 days ago

It feels like I’m finally getting the hang of my new diet. If you’ve seen my previous post where I mentioned that I’m going for a low-calorie, low-fat diet, well — it’s been a week since then, and I’m glad I’ve survived it so far. LOL. Honestly, it was the first three days that made me feel really down. It’s not that the food I’m eating is bad — it’s just not as exciting as what I was used to having.

Food has always been my go-to stress reliever, especially when work gets intense. So eating brown rice, boiled vegetables, and braised tofu felt more like a punishment at first. It felt like the bland food was adding to my stress instead of helping. But by the 5th or 6th day, I started to appreciate the benefits I was getting from it.

The first thing I noticed was that I didn’t feel “heaty” or overly warm anymore. That’s a huge plus, especially with the kind of weather we’ve been having lately. In the past few weeks, I felt like I was melting the moment I stepped outside — I’d sweat almost instantly. The weather has just been too hot and humid, so I’m honestly glad I made the change.

Before this, I often drank cold and sugary drinks, which weren’t doing my throat or my stomach any favors (especially since I’ve been dealing with acidity). I cut out all those drinks last week, and I’m already feeling the benefits.

I also reduced my meat intake — especially beef and pork — and started going for boiled or steamed dishes instead of deep-fried or even stir-fried ones. I now prefer meals that are less oily, less fatty, and lower in sodium. Sure, it may be bland, but it’s definitely better for me, so I’ve decided to stick to this routine.

That said, I’m still following my doctor’s advice to include breaks in my diet. I was told to add variety — like occasionally having pork, some deep-fried dishes, or even a cup of coffee once in a while. But I’m a bit cautious because I know that once I get a taste of those things again, I might get tempted to go back to my old eating habits.

So for now, I’m still trying to avoid coffee and sugary drinks, especially. I’ve been doing okay without coffee so far — and honestly, sleeping earlier and getting more rest has helped reduce my caffeine dependence.

That said, I did treat myself last night to a nice bowl of noodles with a bit of pork and some deep-fried dumplings. I guess that counts as a little variety in my routine. So far, so good — I didn’t have any bad reactions, so I think it’s okay for now.

For next week, I’ll be planning a new set of meals. I have to, because I need to stick to the plan of eating five small meals a day — three meals and two light snacks — all in smaller portions. That’s to make sure I’m following my doctor’s advice. 😊

Sticking to a new diet isn’t easy, but I’m starting to see the benefits and that keeps me motivated. It’s all about finding balance, listening to my body, and making small changes that actually stick. Hopefully, this new routine becomes a lifestyle I can enjoy and sustain in the long run.

That pictures make me hungry

I have a sweet tooth, but recently I saw how it makes my body bloated. My face included. I plan to slowly cut sugar to my diet and avoid eating desserts and sugary drinks. It's taking a toll on me already. Maybe, I should implement a calorie deficit as well and add some exercise. It wouldn't be easy but it's for the best especially I don't want to look so big before my upcoming graduation. Haha!

It feels good when we eat good food to maintain a healthy living and this dish really looks yummy to eat.

The part where you mentioned bland food adding to stress, same! 😂 But seriously, proud of you for pushing through. It’s not easy to reset your habits, but the way you’re listening to your body is so motivating!

It is a good move, though there might be "withdrawal symptoms". But for the greater good
