Hello hivers...

In my country, there are specific Seasons that we experience as different times of the year that brings about different kinds of weather. Specifically, there are two Seasons which is the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season is the period where vegetation and agriculture flourishes, during this season people take up the opportunity to farm crops that are edible and sustainable as food and at the same time that they can make a source of income from.

My country is so blessed with the rainy season because during this time we experience lots of the downpour of rain which in turn Waters the garden of farmlands and brings about a bountiful harvest when the time is right.

During the rainy season, I always look forward to having my best meal which is roasted or boiled corn with African pear also called ube. We can only get delicious maize and pear during this period as everything withers off during the dry season except the farmers consistently waters them. The combination of corn and pear is known to be a perfect pair because when both are paired together the savory and buttery taste you feel in your mouth is heavenly.

This delicacy is simple to prepare and can be gotten for cheap prices. The maize can be prepared ib two ways which includes : either roasting it on charcoal if you want it roasted or simply boiling it in water, if you prefer the boiled type. For the African pear, you put it in a bowl and pour hot water on it to soften it, it is perfect when eaten alongside the maize.

As we all know, the maize and pear have the nutritional value they add to the body system, while maize belong to the carbohydrates family, pear belongs to the fat and vitamin family, hence, they give energy and supply necessary vitamins to the body.

The craving for maize and African pear in Nigeria is one that I see as a cultural nostalgia as people always look forward to the rainy season because Street vendors would make them readily available for people to buy. Almost everybody loves this snack or quick food because it is nourishing and we only get to eat it during the raining season.

In conclusion, I stay in a locality where we get to buy maize and peer at a cheaper price. The picture I posted consists of fresh corn that cost 1500 naira and the African pear cost 500 naira. Although, there are places like the cities Benin, Lagos Abuja, Port Harcourt and so on where corn and Pear are expensive. One time I was in Ibadan and a bulb of corn was priced for 400 naira, it was too expensive but I had to get it because I craved it.
