New Year’s Night Streets

Christmas and New Year are just around the corner, and I find myself looking back with nostalgia on the good old days. One of the most memorable holidays of my life took place in Tobolsk, an old Siberian town.

If you’re curious, you can check out my earlier post about that celebration to see what a provincial town looks like on New Year’s Eve. Here, I simply wanted to share a few black-and-white shots of its night streets.

You might notice that there are no crowds of cheerful people in these images. I took them late at night, and when it’s minus thirty-five degrees Celsius outside, not everyone is eager to stay outdoors for long. So after welcoming the New Year, people quickly headed home to continue celebrating indoors.
