ASEAN HIVE Community Challenge #157: Traditional Textile in Indonesia

Hello ASEAN Buddies...

This week's challenge really made me open an old album, because it's been a long time since I wore traditional textile. That's because traditional textile is used to celebrate special days, and while living in Jakarta I didn't attend an event that required me to wear traditional clothes.

Indonesia has many traditional textiles, one of which is kebaya. Indeed, the most famous is batik cloth. But talking about my favorite traditional textile, modern kebaya is the one I like the most.

As I mentioned earlier, people nowadays wear traditional clothes on special occasions. Back then, I wore Kebaya—as a top, and batik cloth bottoms were at graduation ceremonies. Yup, at my thesis defense and graduation, I wore kebaya and batik cloth. I like kebaya because it has many styles that we can create. Approaching graduation, I used a tailor to make the kebaya that I had been dreaming of. You can see in the left and right photos, both kebaya are my favorite kebayas made based on my own designs. It may look simple, but I love the tile material and embroidery.

The photo on the left with a green kebaya and batik cloth is the moment of my college graduation examination. I designed the kebaya so that it can be used for various events. Meanwhile, the photo on the right is a kebaya in my favorite colors—pink and blue. I wore it to attend a wedding. This kebaya does not use batik cloth, but rather satin cloth. I designed it for semi-formal events such as weddings.

What do you think?

Hi, Halo, Annyeong! Welcome to my galaxy.

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of those are romance.
Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author, traveler wannabe, and blogger.

Interesting traditional clothes of your country. I honestly like looking at ladies and gentlemen wearing traditional clothes on special events. Nowadays, it's more enhanced and often created with fusion - modern but with traditional details especially that designers also adapt to the modern way of fashion designing. Wow, these must be part of your clothing treasures as you designed them yourself. Lovely!

Traditional clothing is a form of art, and it's one the ways people can express themselves! It's really beautiful and holds so much grace. And I love how you can mix it up with other colors, it makes it so much more interesting!

I love this traditional dress. It is beautiful and elegant. I wish I could wear one some day.

That's awesome! Designing your own clothes 😮 And they're very beautiful too and they suit you well 🥰

Hi there! Yes that is right people nowadays don't wear traditional clothes often, because we have so called thing like "change".
I like more the way people dress before than todays because today is so revealing and not conservative.
Have a good day
