Hello! It's finally weekend again! About a week left before Mother's Day so I am pretty occupied preparing for selling jelly cakes. I wish I still get an order this time. The struggle is real in marketing your products and reaching the right customers.
Anyway, here's a sneak peek of my second jelly cake design for Mother's Day.
I have made the cake canvas two days ago and finally got to decorate the cake today. First, I drew the design on my tablet to visualize how the cake would like. Then I prepared the gelatin solution which I will be using on injecting designs on the cake. Drawing on the tablet before preparing the gelatin solution helps me stay organized because through this way, I can easily list down the colors and design tools I need for the cake. I can also somehow estimate how much gelatin solution would I need for every color. This also helps me to lessen wastage of ingredients.
When the gelatin solution and tools are ready, I bring out the cake canvas from the fridge and let it sit on a cake turntable.
Here's how the canvas looks like. It's important for the canvas to be cold while you decorate it because it makes injecting the design easier and with less mess.
After doing the main floral designs, I realized that I have only little space left and following the design I drew on the tablet is impossible so I have to improvise. Yup, as you have noticed, the design here is upside down. That's the challenge when making a jelly cake. If you can decorate the jelly cake without getting anxious then you're a pro!
And for the final injections.
Last step is to pour the bottom layer of the cake which is also a gelatin solution. Here I made the color of the base into something like dark pink or dark fuschia. This acts as a background color for your cake. I have to let this set on the fridge overnight before unmolding it and seeing how the design turned out.
And here's the excess gelatin solution. I don't throw it because you can still eat it. It's actually fun because the colors blend a bit like a marble when it solidifies. This one contains gelatin and I'm sure you know that gelatin has good benefits for our body. It boosts collagen production through its amino acid content which makes gelatin good for our skin, hair, and nails.
Time to clean the tools! These tools are expensive so I'm really careful with it. Yikes!
And also time to clean the cups. I really don't like the cleaning part of making jelly cakes because it's exhausting and the gelatin is so sticky. I have to soak the cups with hot water first before washing them.
That's all for now! I still haven't unmolded the cake because I just finished decorating a couple of hours ago. But I'll give an update on the next coming days! Thank you and advance Happy Mother's Day to all mama hivers out there!
Thanks for reading! 💚
