EASY Swedish Meatballs!

Hej! Happy Monday, everyone! There's a lot of things I've wanted to do from now on and one of them is being here on Hive. I pray my lazy bones don't interfere with the spike of motivation I'm having right now!

On my previous post, I've shared the foods I cooked for my mother's third anniversary and one of which was the Swedish Meatballs! It's a dish I love to make as it is delicious and easy to make. Let me show you how!

🤤 Swedish Meatballs ✨️

I've heard about Swedish meatballs through IKEA. It's one of their popular meals they serve. It's meatballs with a creamy and a tinge of sour thick sauce. I promise it tastes good especially when it's paired with potatoes fried in olive oil. Its name kind of sounds it's complicated to make but I was surprised to find out that it was easy. My sister recommended me to try cooking it and even gave me a recipe and tip for an alternative for sour cream.

If you know how to make Swedish meatballs at home, then you can save up more money instead of traveling far just to get to IKEA for this food. And good news, you can also satisfy your craving anytime.

📝 Here's What You'll Need 📝

MEATBALLS:

  • 1/4 Ground Beef
  • 1/4 Ground Pork
  • 1 Whole Egg
  • 1 Tbsp. All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Bread Crumbs
  • 1/2 Tsp. Salt
  • 1 Tbsp. Soy Sauce
  • 3 Grams Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp. Ground Black Pepper
  • Pinch of Thyme
  • Cooking Oil

SAUCE:

  • 1 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 Tbsp. All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Beef Bouillon
  • 1/2 Cup All Purpose Cream
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Vinegar
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • Salt to Taste
  • Dried Parsley

👩🏻‍🍳 Let's Cook!!!

1.) In a bowl, combine the ground beef and pork, all purpose flour, bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder, soy sauce, salt, ground black pepper, and thyme. Mix all the ingredients with clean hands.

2.) Pinch enough meat into your palm and roll it until meat turns into a small ball.

Continue until all meat has been shaped into a ball. You can cook them right away or you can store them in the freezer if you want to cook them later or some other day.

3.) Get the amount of meatballs you need and fry them on the pan wih cooking oil. Four pieces of big meatballs is enough for me for a meal. You'll know the meatball is already cooked when it's firm when you press it. You can also brown the meatballs a bit if you want just avoid overcooking it, else, it will shrink.

Set aside the meatballs and remove the burnt residues on the pan. Keep the oil in the pan or you can set it aside first to clean the pan better the put the oil back after. (Or you can use a different pan for making the sauce. Just transfer the oil into it.)

4.) Now let's make the sauce! Add butter into the pan with the oil you used for frying the meatballs.

5.) Once butter is melted, add the all purpose flour. Mix until combined.

6.) Pour water and mix. It's important to stir it occasionally so the flour doesn't settle at the bottom of the pan.

7.) When the sauce begins to smoke, add the beef bouillon. Mix until bouillon is melted and combined with the sauce.

8.) Let's make the sour cream. I don't have a heavy cream and it's not available on the groceries here so I just use all purpose cream. My sister told me an alternative on how to make sour cream. Just combine the all purpose cream with vinegar. Mix and voila!

9.) Add the sour cream into the pan and stir.

10.) Then add salt and ground black pepper to taste. You can also use ground white pepper. Stir until it's combined with the sauce.

11.) Continue to stir until sauce becomes thick.

12.) On your plate/bowl, put rice and add the meatballs on top.

13.) Then pour some of the sauce on the top, just enough to blanket the meatballs and rice. Or you can add as much as you want. It's your food anyway!

14.) Garnish with dried ground parsley. And we're done!!!

👌🏻100% Yum!!! 😋

If you're a fan of the Filipino burger steak then you are going to love this too for sure! The sauce is thick, creamy, savory, and also a bit sour. For me, it's the sauce which makes this dish extra delicious so I always make sure that I pour generous amount of sauce into my bowl.

The sauce is enough for three servings so I fried more meatballs. Now I have two more servings which means I don't have to cook for my next two meals. Yay! If you cook your own food you'll understand the joy and relief of not cooking for one or two days.

Have you tried eating Swedish meatballs?
