it wasn’t that bad tough.
A few weeks ago, I went to a coworking space near the central area of my city. As I passed by, I actually noticed there were roadblocks that are not normally placed in the area. But I couln’t think of anything, so I parked my motorbike and went to the coworking space.
I spend about 2 hours there, until I felt the need to go to the toilet. And I looked down, where the main street of the area, was blocked. Yap, no vehicles were passing by. That’s when I realized, there were some activities going on. An unexpected carnival.
I’m not a big fan of carnival, because it’s usually so crowded. Back then, I would watch carnival like this for schoolwork or news coverage with my friend. I know carnivals are always interesting, but that day I wasn’t in the mood for it.
Unfortunately, the parking area where I parked my motorbike was right on the side of the main street where the carnival was held. It was around 6 pm, and when I asked the security guard, he said it would end around 9 pm. So I had no choice.
I went to one of the franchise on the side of the Tunjungan Street. This area is full of cafes, restaurants, and franchises where people can choose the place they prefer. I didn’t really want to go to a new place because I was already hungry–I didn’t want to deal with unexpected prices or uncertain taste. So I went to Wizz Mie.
Noodle franchises like this are all over the city. I’m not really a fan of them, but I could expect the taste and price of the menu, so I went there. “Mie” from the name of the place means noodles, but they actually sell a lot of other things as well. There are several types of dimsum and beverage menus. And there are even rice bowl menus that you can try in this place. But I only ordered a portion of spicy noodles and a portion of the dimsum that has cheese in it. I didn't order any drink because I wanted to reduce my sugar intake and that day I also brought my mineral water.
I said previously that I’m not in the mood for this carnival, but I actually chose this place because they have a second floor. Yap, I planned to watch the carnival from above🤣 unfortunately, the seats facing the street where the carnival was about to start, were all taken. So I just took a picture, and searched a quiet corner to eat my food.
I remember a few years ago, I also ate alone at the place like this and felt a little intimidating. But that day was different. I don’t even know if it was because my comfort level of being alone is kind of increasing, or because there were a few people who were also eating by themselves that day. I finished my noodles while watching anime hehe it’s TSUMASHO which I checked out because someone reviewed it here on hive.
I finished one episode of the anime and stayed a little longer before finally going downstairs. The picture below is the first floor of this Wizz Mie, which looks like a warm and quiet place in this kind of darker mood.
Then, I went out to watch the carnival. The participants represented their respective regions spread across Indonesia. They wore very beautiful contumes. Some of them represented the unique culture of their city, and others even showed off playing musical instrument while they were walking on the street. I just realized it now, that May is my city’s birthday month.
One thing I noticed from the carnival was that some of the locals were very supportive, they applauded and cheered for each participant, which was so heartwarming to see. Something a bit odd was that the distance from one participant representing their region to another, seemed a bit disorganized. So there were some regions that were quite far behind, which I didn’t actually know if it was due to the lack of preparation from the participants or the organizers.
After the carnival was over, I went straight to the parking space to get my motorbike and go home. Overall, it was quite an interesting day because I finally eating by my self again and even watched the carnival without anyone I knew. The carnival was entertaining enough, So I wasn’t too upset about going home later than I planned. That’s all for today :) See you in my next blog, hivers!
