Baan SuanHello everyone
Yesterday around noon, my wife and I traveled to another sub-district to attend the funeral of an elder relative. This trip was a new experience for me because normally, funerals of relatives are held at temples in my sub-district. However, this time, my relative informed me that the funeral would be held at Wat Tung Yai, a place I had never been to before. Therefore, before traveling, I had to rely on GPS navigation technology to ensure a smooth journey.
Before setting up the GPS and leaving, I took a moment to ask my relatives and neighbors in our neighborhood if anyone wanted to travel to Wat Tung Yai with me. I stopped by several houses of my relatives to ask, but it turned out that no one was available to travel with me. Only one relative left me an envelope of money for making merit. With the intention of attending the funeral and expressing condolences for the passing of our elder relative, my wife and I decided to travel to Wat Tung Yai with the GPS as our companion to guide us to our destination.
Traveling with GPS in an unfamiliar area is another interesting experience. Although the navigation system may sometimes be inaccurate, we were finally able to arrive at Wat Tung Yai and attend the mourning ceremony for our beloved elder relative.
The familiar scene appeared again. The warm feeling overflowed when seeing a large group of relatives waiting to welcome us at the door. The smiling faces and the greetings full of joy made my wife and I feel very good. After greeting and hugging each other with longing, the relatives led me to the table that had been prepared. Not long after, the food began to be served one after another. The aroma of the food and herbs floated to my nose, making my mouth water. Today's lunch menu was so tempting. Starting with sour fish curry with raw papaya, it was colorful, sour, spicy, salty, and well-balanced. The soup was easy to swallow. Next was coconut milk beef curry, the beef stewed until soft and tender, combined with the sweet and creamy coconut milk and fragrant curry paste. Sipping it hot was so satisfying. Next was herbal pork soup, a clear soup with a well-balanced flavor. Sipping it was refreshing and relieved the spiciness very well. Along with it were various kinds of vegetables, including cucumbers and long beans, beautifully arranged, adding freshness to the meal. And finally, watermelon, cut into bite-sized pieces, bright red, placed on a large plate, looking very appetizing. Along with the fragrant hot rice and refreshing cold drinking water. While the food was gradually placed on the table, my wife and I talked with our relatives with great gusto, exchanging stories about our daily lives. Laughter and smiles filled the air. After a while, when the time was right, our relatives invited us to eat. However, when we looked at the dishes on the table and there were only the two of us sitting at the table, I felt that there was more food than we could finish. Out of consideration and wanting to share, I asked my relatives, “There’s so much food. In that case, please invite other guests to come and eat at this table with us. You’re very welcome.” My relatives smiled happily and not long after, a guest came and sat at our table with a smile on his face. Without hesitation, I quickly got up and scooped hot rice onto a plate and happily handed it to the new person at the table. Then, the three of us started to eat our delicious lunch together. The atmosphere at the dining table was warm and friendly. The sounds of conversation and the clinking of spoons on plates went hand in hand with the delicious taste of the food. It was another memorable moment at this merit-making event.
The rumbling sound of rain clouds that had been forming since the afternoon gradually intensified as I sat down to eat lunch. Even though it was the beginning of the rainy season, the rain that fell was so heavy that the ground was starting to get soaked. The rain started to stop, so I took this opportunity to say goodbye to my relatives with the intention of personally giving the donation envelopes that I had received to the hosts. Visiting and making merit with my family and friends is an incomparable happiness.
However, on the way home, the rain came down again, so hard that I could hardly see the road. I decided to stop at a convenience store by the roadside to buy some fresh food for dinner, in case the rain was still too heavy to go to the market.
When I arrived in front of a large shopping mall, the rain was like the heavens were leaking, pouring down without warning. I had to park the car and wait for a long time, hoping that the rain would be merciful and lessen its strength. Finally, when I saw that I could go through the rain, I decided to turn off the engine and get ready to get out of the car.
Then something happened that impressed me when the mall staff, wearing a raincoat and holding a large umbrella, walked straight towards me. Along with inviting me to walk into the mall without getting wet, this small attention gave me a warm and comfortable feeling.
Inside the mall, the atmosphere was lively with people coming to shop, some of whom were taking shelter from the rain like me. I took my time to carefully select ingredients for dinner, while I was still worried about the heavy rain outside. I hoped that while I was shopping, the rain would gradually stop, I would be able to pay, and I would be able to travel home comfortably.
I have to go now. 🥰🔅
