  • Hello from Thailand on this lovely Saturday! 🤗 Today, I made a simple snack that is incredibly delicious and addictive. The main ingredients are whole wheat bread and bananas, which I turned into a sandwich. I sweetened it with caramel, which is also a simple homemade version. But if you're short on time, you can use store-bought caramel sauce or even honey. I used the oven to bake them until they were crispy, with the bread turning a beautiful golden brown. Enjoying them hot is just perfect for this chilly weather.



Ingredients

  • Whole wheat bread : 4 slices
  • Bananas : 2
  • Butter : 2 tablespoons
  • A little cinnamon powder (optional)

For the Caramel Sauce

  • Granulated sugar : 6 tablespoons
  • Butter : 2 tablespoons
  • Whipping cream : 4 tablespoons


Instructions

  • Make the Simple Caramel Sauce: Start by placing the granulated sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Do not stir. Wait for the sugar to melt and turn a light brown color. Add the butter and stir until combined. Then, gradually add the whipping cream, stirring continuously until you have a smooth caramel sauce. Set it aside.

  • Prepare the Bread: Take the whole wheat bread slices and spread butter on only one side of all four slices. This buttered side will be the outside, which will become crispy when baked.

  • Assemble the Sandwiches: On the unbuttered side of one bread slice, spread a generous layer of the caramel sauce.

  • Arrange the banana slices on top.

  • Sprinkle with a little cinnamon powder and drizzle a bit more caramel sauce over the bananas.

  • Top with a second slice of bread, making sure the buttered side is facing out.

  • Repeat the process with the remaining two slices of bread. You will now have two Banana Caramel Sandwich pairs.

  • Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 5-7 minutes, until the bread is crispy and golden.

  • Alternative Cooking Methods: You can also cook these in a sandwich press until the bread is crispy and the filling is hot, or use an air fryer at the same temperature as the oven.

  • Serve: Once your Banana Caramel Sandwiches are perfectly golden and crispy, take them out, cut them in half, and enjoy while they're still warm

  • The outside of the whole wheat bread is fragrant with butter and crispy, while the inside is filled with warm, soft banana and the rich sweetness of caramel sauce. The subtle aroma of cinnamon, combined with the scent of butter, creates a perfectly balanced fragrance.
