Happy Friday Hivers!
I’ve noticed that as I grow older, I’ve become more careful with money, in other words, I’ve learned how to handle my finances better. Back in my 20s, I was very careless with spending. My mindset then was, “I have a regular job, I’m still young, I can earn it back anyway.”
But when I eventually faced a situation where my savings hit zero, that’s when I truly started learning how to manage my money.
Now, I stick to a daily budget and make sure not to go beyond it. In fact, I try to spend even less than what I’ve allotted so that I can save the remaining amount.
I’ve been having a bit of a struggle lately since I transferred to a new company that’s located right across a mall. The worst part is that most of my colleagues are younger and they love eating lunch out.
To be fair, it’s not really a problem if I don’t join them because they don’t force me. But there are times when I feel a little uncomfortable since I keep refusing their invites.
And as we all know, food at the mall tends to be more expensive compared to a simple carinderia meal.
So one time, since I was already feeling a bit guilty for always saying no, I finally joined them when they invited me for lunch. We agreed to eat at Ribshack. I was actually thankful that they chose a place that wasn’t too expensive, but still, I ended up going over my daily budget. It wasn’t by much though, so I just let it pass.
Ribshack has a similar concept to Mang Inasal — they serve grilled pork and chicken dishes with unlimited rice. But personally, I find Ribshack’s marinade more flavorful compared to Mang Inasal.
When we arrived at the restaurant, it was already packed with people. In fact, this place always seems to be full, probably because, like me, many also enjoy the taste of their food.
All of us ended up finishing a lot of rice — grilled meat paired with chicken oil really makes you want to eat more. Yeah, I know it’s not exactly healthy food, but sometimes you just can’t resist indulging in something unhealthy. Don’t you agree?
This is one of the downsides of having an office right across a mall: it’s so easy to get tempted, especially when your officemates love hanging out at the mall or dining in different restaurants.
On the other hand, there are also advantages. If you need to buy something, it’s just nearby — no need to commute. Most importantly, you can run errands or shop quickly during breaktime since everything is so accessible.
That’s why I really have to practice more self-control and not give in so easily to invitations, so I can save money. TPerks and Struggles When Your Office is Just Across the Mallhose are the pros and cons of working in an office that’s just a few steps away from the mall.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
