Happy Friday Hivers!
Whenever my mother and I travel to Ormoc or Bato, we usually take this bus. My mother finds riding a bus much more comfortable than traveling by van because of the knee pain she has been experiencing. So, when we went to Bato, this was naturally the bus we chose for our trip.

Do you remember the tourist spot we visited in Bato that has already closed down? After our stroll there, we headed straight to the Bato Baywalk since it was just nearby. So, come along and let's see what awaits us at the Bato Baywalk!
For me, if I compare the Bato Baywalk with the baywalks in Inopacan and Hilongos, I would say that the ones in Hilongos and Inopacan are much better. If I were to give Bato Baywalk a rating, I would give it 6.5 out of 10.
Why? The seawater doesn't seem very clean, and there is an unpleasant smell in the area. This may be because the shoreline has a muddy, silty type of sand. During low tide, it gives off an odor similar to what you would typically smell in a mangrove swamp. While the baywalk is still a nice place to relax and enjoy the view, I personally found the overall environment less appealing compared to the baywalks in Hilongos and Inopacan.

Since my mother planned to have barbecue for dinner, we stopped by the barbecue area. The tables and chairs were neatly arranged, making the place look organized and welcoming for customers.
When we arrived, the area was still very quiet since it was quite early. I'm not sure if they get a lot of customers later in the evening, but at that time, there were only a few people around.

While waiting for our barbecue to be cooked, we continued strolling around the baywalk. Eventually, I spotted a stall selling halo-halo. The weather was quite hot, so I was tempted to have something cold. I ordered two servings, one for my mother and one for myself.
Their regular halo-halo costs ₱60.00 per serving. But you know what? While eating it, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed with what I paid for. The halo-halo had very few ingredients and was mostly filled with ice. Honestly, I didn't really enjoy it, and my mother felt the same way. It looked refreshing at first, but the taste and overall value just didn't meet our expectations.

After finishing our halo-halo, we decided to explore the area and check out the different shops around the baywalk. At the back section, we found several food stalls and small businesses offering a variety of choices. There was a coffee shop, a silogan, a stall selling ramen, and a few places serving burgers and milk tea.
It was nice to see that visitors had several dining options to choose from, whether they were looking for a full meal, a quick snack, or simply a cup of coffee while enjoying the baywalk atmosphere. The variety of food establishments added a lively touch to the area and gave visitors more reasons to stop by and spend time there.

After we claimed our barbecue, we headed toward their church. On the way, we passed by a cotton candy vendor.
Did you know that in the Philippines, cotton candy sellers are commonly found in parks? It’s something you’ll often see, especially in places where families and children gather. The kids really enjoy it because it’s fun and exciting to eat. Once you put it in your mouth, it quickly melts and leaves a sweet taste behind.
Of course, most children love it since they naturally have a sweet tooth.

So we finally arrived at their church. In the Philippines, Catholicism is very widespread, so all municipality has a large church of its own. I was actually expecting an old and traditional-looking structure, but I was surprised when we got there because the church had a more modern design.
There were also candle-lighting areas on the side of the church, which added to its solemn and peaceful atmosphere. The place felt very calm and serene, perfect for reflection and prayer.
It was a simple but meaningful visit, ending our little trip on a peaceful note.
