Classes were cancelled today in preparation for the landfall of Typhoon Dante in the Philippines. Fortunately, although the weather was gloomy, rainfall was scanty, and there were times that Mr. Sun gave out his precious rays.
So we took this as a mini holiday.
We went to our usual tambayan (or a place where we usually hangout). We love this place because it's accessible - just beside the road; it's affordable because they just sell simple ready-to-make hot drinks like Milo and 3-in-1 coffee and Filipino native delicacies such as biko and puto. We also love the view there, very relaxing as we have a beautiful view of the mountains and the rice paddies.
We make it a priority now to really spend quality time with our kids and make great memories with them. We believe that for them love is spelled as T-I-M-E. And for them to feel loved, we have to take time to create beautiful moments with them.
If you look at the other side of the road, you get to see that the mountain is grayed out, telling us that it was raining in that area.
Kakanins in Gebans
They have more sometimes, but on this particular day, they have the biko, puto, and budbud.
Biko is made from sticky rice, sugar, and coconut milk. Puto sa dahon (dahon means leaf, in this case banana leaf) is made from either sticky or regular rice flour or all-purpose flour, and budbud is made from sticky rice and coconut milk placed inside the banana leaf and steamed. I will also show you a common thing among Filipinos I know. Haha. It's soaking the bread in our hot drink like coffee or malt drink before eating it.
We call this toasted bread "kinihad" while the expensive version is "biscocho."
You will know a Filipino if she or he does this. Haha.
Anyway, here is our humble tricycle. Our vehicle wherever we go in town.
I am thankful for Geban's, our not-fancy but perfect spot for our family, where we have spent conversations and precious family time over their hot drinks and kakanins.
