Hello Asean Hive Community
How are you today? I am getting better although the weather has been nasty in the last few weeks. I think during this time, I should post something nice to lift up mood, not only my mood but everyone mood on HIVE here.
Recently I had this duck dish, Duck is BEBEK in Indonesian. I am not endorsing this BEBEK PERDIKAN cafe, however I think they deserve some credits here because they did make a good dish.
I got invited by old friends, to have some time for mingle and some talks regarding we haven't seen each other for years. They chose this BEBEK PERDIKAN cafe, which honestly I hadn't heard before. Initially I misheard the name, it sounded like BEBEK PENDIDIKAN, which meant DUCK EDUCATION in English. So I had some silly thought like "are we going to duck school?" or "are we going to train some Ducks to do some attractions?"
However I decided to come to that place regarding two things. First the reviews on google and other website were nice, so I guessed the chance I got ripped off was very small. The second reasons was my condition, which I believed I need to socialize again with other people outside my jobs or professional activities. I felt my whole life in the last 5 years was like survival for the next days, I did not have any intention, goals or instinct other than to survive. The sole reason why I kept being single, because it's all about job, getting food, and staying alive.
So I arrived a bit late, due to the nasty weather. Luckily I was not the last one, so I could catch up some stories with others first. To be honest, I did not have enough money there, so I only ate the leftovers LoL. Well, those were not a real leftovers, they were side dishes or appetizers we ordered earlier but became a redundant because a few persons canceled their arrival.
This was one of the appetizer we ordered but it seemed everyone were scared of it. This was Corn Fritters. They made these fritters very well, the only downside was they were too big so everyone were scared to grab a piece of it. We were scared it would make us full instantly.
So I ate this a lot, and then I asked for a scissor to cut them smaller. After I cut them, people started to pick part of them. Honestly, this was exceeding my expectation, Corn Fritters usually were just that plain or they had taste with some addictive or instant flavor booster. They did not do that way.
And these were the side dish that became favorite by term they ran out first. People chose to eat this one first, MENDOAN. Mendoan is half cook Tempeh, or Soy cake. So they are soggy and a bit wet. We liked this kind of food although some could not eat them due to that sogginess.
However I did not feel this MENDOAN was something special. It tasted not bad, decent actually, but nothing special. Just plainly decent!
So What About The Duck?
So this was my order, the fried duck. I did not eat on the spot, or did not dine in there. I asked it to be wrapped, packaged, and brought it home. I live with my old mother, so I could not let her have her dinner alone.
However I know well that if I come to a restaurant or café, and I do not order anything, just a drink and small orders, it would not be polite either. I could not order two portions of duck because my mother can not eat duck, she dislikes it. She only eats Peking Duck, although sometime I tell her Peking Duck is still a duck LoL.
Overall I can say the cafe can make this duck dish competes at restaurant level. It was tender and not smelly. Sometime you get a fried duck but they are hard and smelly, due to wrong method of cooking. Taste wise, it was not special, decent but yeah... not special, only a good or decent.
However I had a complain about them, it was the lalapan. Lalapan is what we call for some fresh vegetables served with a chili sauce or paste. Above picture was the lalapan they gave inside the package. 2 cut of cucumber, a cut of tomato and some cut of cabbage, which I believed it was not representable for their dish.
I did not expect they provide a full package of lalapan, but seriously if you sell something above $4 in Jakarta, please don't provide this kind of Lalapan. Just do better lah.
Ok that's the Duck I had recently, overall it was still good memory to me. See You next time!
Thank you for coming and reading my post. I live in Jakarta, Ex-Capital City of Indonesia. I used to live by making money online, that's why I like being here, on HIVE, and in #PIMP - (Paper In My Pocket) community.
