No business logic as all they are doing is diluting their chances of success. I feel sorry for the original restaurant and I hope he is still supported.

I think the original one does pretty well with the long term locals but I am sure he has taken a hit from anyone new. There has become a focus to have a good location rather than good food although I wouldn't really know because I rarely eat indian food.
