Planting Seeds & Clones

in HiveGarden4 days ago

Hello World.
Today we are going to plant some seeds into the #garden.
First, I planted some Ornamental Corn. Last post, I mentioned I want to breed my own strain of corn. I have 3 types of corn strains. Ornamental, or "Indian" corn is thicker than other types. You can't really boil or fry it to eat, but it makes excellent flour or popped corn. I wanted to take a #photo and show how beautiful the Ornamental corn can be. In fact, some people will dry the corn and display it on a shelf instead of eating it, as part of a holiday cornucopia.

Next, I planted some Potatoes. [Boil em Mash em Stick em in a stew]. I'm not a huge fan of eating potatoes, but I do love to add them into soups as a thickening agent. Sometimes I will grate them into a frying pan for some hash browns with eggs. Anyways, these potatoes have some nice purple "eyes", which are the root system of a potato. Of course, potatoes don't have actual seeds, you grow them from clones of the actual potato body. I buried them 4-6 inches into the soil.

Onions are similar to potatoes. You just let them sit and they clone themselves. I've been planting onions and potatoes in the retaining wall along the outside of my garden. I love eating onions as long as they aren't raw. They are great in fried dishes, soups etc. They are also low maintenance to grow. Pro tip: You can cut the green tops off during growth and eat them, as long as you leave a few inches on the top each time you cut them. The gift that keeps on giving.

Beets are another plant that are easy to grow. With beets, you simply need to cut off the tops before you plant them into the ground. This triggers the "clone" to regrow. Otherwise things won't grow right. Beets are one of my favorite vegetables for making soups. They are also a good fried food. The tops of the beets are edible: They taste similar to collared greens. More mild than the actual beets are very nice friend with rice/meat/grains etc. A great dinner addition!

Finally, I planted some special Peas & Pole Bean strains: These are very important for my garden because they are going to give me shade and security from nosy neighbors. None of my neighbors are too bad, but I just like to have a bit of privacy in general and I don't want the entire world to see my cannabis plants, even though they are legal. {More on that later}. Public gardens are nice, but I prefer a nice private garden with vines of beans and peas growing along the walls. A private world where I can relax and reflect on life undisturbed like a secret dreamscape imaginarium.

I prefer a private garden as well. There's this bliss that comes with sitting in your garden and just reflecrir about life and all.
