I have been wanting to try this place out ever since I set my eyes to it, but never got the chance.
And what more the "excuse" to bring my parents to eat-out once a while especially after Sunday service so that they won't always coup-up at home?
Dad loves rice, mom loves western and noodles; and I am stuck in between.
Fortunately this "Happy Fellow" (in Mandarin "Fellow" has been translated to "fatty") joint is just the place to satisfy all types of cravings altogether.

Located in a cozy small restaurant with minimalist concept, sometimes it does remind me a little on the small modernised shops in Hong Kong, it gives people a sense of quiet-cozyness where small families would just love to have a meal in a cooling settings and interesting presentations.
A great "plug in" to help circulate the cold air better
The menu was really simple and the drinks were the typical kopitiam (Malaysian old-fashion local café) style, with pulled coffee and barley drinks, it was a simple delicacy.
Yes, they come with a bowl of warm soup too!
There are 2 signature style of cooking they have, one, is the famous Sarawak kolok mee (dry toss sauce egg noodles) which we didn’t try; and the other one, a very interesting (post world war 2?) "Industrial Metal Lunch Boxes" which according to Google search, started being used around 1950s, which is what we tried out.
Every state in Malaysia has its very unique "egg noodles", one of the was what I attempted to do (hand pulled version)
I think I have remembered seeing one of those (either) Hong Kong (or) China movie about the industrial era that briefly showed this sort of metal lunch boxes, hence it truly intrigued me to try it out because it looked so interesting!
You are supposed to mix all the food together so that the taste is well balanced
For a meal that costs less than 10 MYR (a little less than $2.40 USD), with minced pork and a hardboiled egg covered on top of a scrumptious portion bowl of rice, that's dad's paradise quick lunch.
Simple, flavourful, and ton of rice!
Every man needs his protein! 🤣
Mom couldn't have the usual white rice and there was no low GI rice (because of her sensitive stomach), she opted for a croissant ham and cheese sandwich, with enough greens to satisfy her ideal "balanced" meal (unlike dad who always run after meat protein). The croissant was a little pricier by 3 MYR (less than a dollar USD) and she joyfully enjoyed her meal in her pace.
Because I know probably mom will share with me 1/3 of her sandwich (which she did), I opted for a bowl of wanton as I wanted to keep my carbs as low intake if possible, and with full of fried shallots and diced spring onions, the soul is salty-flavourful and warm. Satisfying hunger, for a meal of $2.40 USD.
It wasn’t utterly cheap, but it was satisfying for my parents to just enjoy a meal without making a mess in the kitchen. We definitely would love to come again, but maybe when I am busy, I can quickly swing by and call a to-go meal, if they serve it in a metal box like that, easy to carry.
Ordering style is also simple, just scan the QR code and make your order in your own pace!
(Caution, there is no server to attend to you, except when delivering food to you, and no, you do not need to tip them unless it is a huge Chinese restaurant with a designated server where you can choose to tip, not mandatory - for the Americans who are coming to Malaysia for the first time haha)
Of course, if the wallet is tight, nothing beats Economy Rice, a buffet of choice for vegetables with almost the same price but bigger variety.
Until Then
