Craving for Creamy Carbonara Buldak: A Bowl of Noodles, a Flood of Memories, and the Unexpected Comfort of Spicy Food

in Eating Out2 months ago

I’ve been craving to eat ‘Buldak’ lately. There’s this hunger inside of me that salivates and aches for something savory, creamy, cheesy, and with a kick of spiciness. There’s no doubt, I ached for a noodle to achieve that level of satisfaction. It’s not because of stress; it’s not the weather condition as well, obviously. But I realized that it’s been three long months since I first tasted that Korean noodle, and my tongue is just searching for a similar taste once again.

The first time I tried it was with my friends. They introduced me to a Korean diner where you can order different types of noodles and experience the overall Korean feeling. Even the chairs and the vibe of the place are like they were lifted from a Korean drama set. The place was small, cozy yet accommodating, and the smell of different aromas was scattered everywhere. It leaves a strong imprint not just in my memory but in my taste buds as well. During my first time, I ordered the Cheesy Buldak variant, but my friends kept on saying that the best one to try is the Creamy Carbonara variant, which at that time was not available.

Since I’ve been craving to eat Buldak lately, thank you to my social media feeds that keep on showing me people eating Buldak. You pushed all my buttons, and my patience ran out. So, let me show you how I prepared, cooked, ate, and satisfied myself with my craving for Carbonara Buldak!

There is a Korean mart available near our location. Probably, it will just take about a 15-minute walk to go to that store. So, in total, I need to invest 30 minutes of my time to go there. I mean, I can ride a tricycle for easy transportation, but I remembered that it’s been days since I last spent my days walking outside our house. So, that is what I did. When I arrived at the store, I searched for the Carbonara Buldak variant on their shelves. Luckily, there was still stock remaining. I also came to look for ‘Nori’ or the crispy seaweed, but to my shock, one piece costs around 30 pesos. It’s expensive, totally. The Carbonara Buldak alone costs around 99 pesos. I paid for it and decided to go to Dali store to buy the seaweed. That is another store not far from the Korean Mart.

When I arrived in Dali, I immediately looked for the item I was aiming for. The crispy seaweed at this store just costs around 14 pesos. See the price difference? With that, I bought two pieces and decided also to buy the cheese and meat loaf for some additional toppings.

Here’s the complete ingredients that I used to make the creamy Carbonara Buldak:

  • 1 pc Samyang Creamy Carbonara Buldak
  • 2 pcs Crispy Seaweeds
  • 1 bar of Cheese
  • 3 pcs Eggs
  • 1 can of Argentina Meat Loaf
  • 140 ml Alaska Evaporada (Milk)
  • 2 cups of Water

There are two items that I didn’t buy at the store because we have stock. Which means that I was able to save some money.

The first thing that I did was to cook the eggs and the meat loaf in a pan with hot oil. These two will serve as the toppings or decorations for our creamy Carbonara Buldak later. I cooked all the eggs in one go; I sprinkled salt and black pepper according to my preference. For the meat loaf, I cooked it until each loaf turned a medium brown, and after that, I set them on a plate.

11.png

I’ve been aiming for a complete and perfect yolk, but look at that! It didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to be. Lol. The yolk looks like it’s been tortured, and I quite burnt the egg whites. Well, let’s just leave it that way. It is still an egg anyway. Still looks edible to me. What about you?

On the other hand, the meat loaf looks better, and the way I cooked it is good. I don’t want to burn them, I prefer them to be soft and not overcooked.

12.png

I placed them on a plate and set them aside for a while. This will serve as the toppings on top later on. I cannot control myself at that time so I just ate one piece of meat loaf, it’s not a biggie, and I know you can relate too, right? There are just times when you can’t control your hands from picking food served on the table.

Let's not forget to take a picture! A close-up view for a creative shot. What do you think?

Let's now proceed to the main event. Let's cook the Creamy Carbonara Buldak! In this moment, I can't wait for it to be cooked, I can feel my mouth salivating already, and I also heard my stomach growl. It's close to dinner anyway, so it's totally understandable.

14.png

Using a small casserole, I put two cups of water. I also set the fire to medium heat and wait for it to boil.

15.png

Once the water boils, I added the noodles from the Creamy Carbonara Buldak. I cooked the noodles for around 5 minutes on a medium heat.

Compared to a regular noodle, the Buldak noodle strands are thicker. It is compact as well if you look closely.

16.png

At this point, the noodles are slowly being cooked. You can mix this if you want to. This aims to separate all the strands from each other. I am becoming extra careful at this point because I don't want the noodles to be soggy. Who will want that, though? Personally, I don't. My appetite will eventually be lost.

17.png

Once the noodles are cooked. I strained them. But just a reminder, leave a small amount of noodle water in the casserole. We will use it to make a creamy sauce and to prevent the noodles to not being too dry in the process.

18.png

I put back the Buldak noodles on fire. Also, I set the fire to low. This prevents the noodles from burning. Eventually, add the 140 ml Alaska Evaporada or the milk.

19.png

This is the progress so far. I just mixed it thoroughly and waited for it to boil a little.

20.png

This is the right time to add the flavoring and the spicy sauce together!

21.png

I added the Buldak artificial flavoring.

23.png

Followed by the Buldak sauce. This sauce will eventually make your noodles spicy! Don't forget to mix the mixture.

25.png

To make it so cheesy as hell. I added a lot of grated cheese. I think this is almost half of the bar I bought? Haha. Cheese, cheese, cheese, all the way!

26.png

Mix thoroughly. As you can see, cheese is everywhere. And I can also attest how cheesy it looks right now. It makes me hungrier every little second that passes.

27.png

This will not be complete if I do not add more cheese to this Carbonara Buldak. So, I added slices of cheese from the remaining cheese I had earlier. Look at that, bro! Yummy!

28.png

Once done, I put it in a bowl. It looks plain, right? It's time to add the toppings for the kick and visual appeal.

29.png

Remember the eggs and the meatloaf earlier? Here it comes! I added a grated seaweed on top because why not?

30.png

Here's the final look! That will serve as my snack before dinner time! I think I might not be able to eat dinner later. How's the outcome so far?

Lastly, serve and enjoy! I actually ate this Creamy Carbonara Buldak with my sister. I can't finish it alone, you know. It's too much, especially with that amount of toppings. All I can say is that it is delicious! I will rate this a 9 out of 10. Compared to other Buldak variants, this one is not that spicy. It's there, but eventually will fade. It's also cheesy as expected! We love cheese, and this just serves our craving. It is also best with the seaweed on the side. We keep adding the noodles and toppings along with the seaweeds, and it just gives an extraordinary flavor.

Superb! All I can say is that cravings were satisfied! Yay!

So with the amount of toppings, it can be enjoyed by two person na? And i'm curious, can I just prep it as what's on the buldak pack and without those toppings and the milk? Or is that can actually help reduce the spiciness? It looks super spicy base on the color of tge buldak sauce. I've been curious on that particular noodles coz lots of vlogger na ata ang nakapag try nyan. And they all look like they are enjoying it. Di ba sya maumay? I remember that creamy noodles ng nissin, bilis ko maumay. Baka mas maumay ako jan? Owemjiii! Haha. But I really want to try it 🤤🤤

Yes, actually this 'Buldak' with the amount of toppings can be enjoyed by two person already. Busog talaga kami ng sister ko after that.

You can also eat this Buldak as it is, like if you don't like additional toppings, or you're not a fan of cheesy mixtures, then Buldak alone can be eaten without all of the stuff I added.

On the other hand, I believed that adding milk and cheese can lessen the amount of spiciness. I remembered the time when I first tried eating Buldak as what I have mentioned on this blog. At that time kasi, there's no milk at all in my mixture so i can feel the spiciness of the food. However, when I tried it with a milk, the spiciness become tolerable.

When it comes to umay naman, well I believe that's the purpose of the toppings and seaweeds as well. It balances the Buldak mixture para hindi lang ayon ang kinakain mo the entire time. You can also try different toppings as well not just the egg itself or the meat loaf. Anything will do base on your preference. It's really just how you'll play with it and on where you're comfortable at.

You should definitely try it. Share with us also about your experience once you're done through a blog AHHAHAHA.

I want to try this Buldak too… soooon! 😍🔥

You should definitely try it! It's so good well in my perspective. Add some stuff as well if you want like eggs, maling, or any other Korean side dishes.

My sister loves Buldak! As for me, I like it without cheese 🙈 I’m all for the super spicy version hahaha and uy, ang mura pala ng nori sa dali!
Now I’m suddenly craving it!

Cheese and milk reduces the amount of spiciness. I am not a fan of too much spice, that's the reason why I preferred it with all of that stuff. I remembered last time, my tongue is hot like hell and all I can do is to slurp my mango shake beside me. I also sweat at that time even if it's air-conditioned! Haha.

And yes, Nori is much cheaper in Dali. In Korean Mart, they are too expensive. You will save a lot if you have a nearest Dali store in your city.
