Rare Phenomenon: A "Sea Wave" in the Middle of Digul River

Have you ever seen a large wave inside a river? Here in the Digul River, South Papua, we witness a unique natural phenomenon that locals call "Kepala Arus" (Head of the Current).
It looks just like a tidal wave from the ocean, but it happens right here in the river! It is both awe-inspiring and intense to witness this while working on our logistics ship. Nature truly has its own way of surprising us with such hidden wonders. 🌊🚢
Have you ever encountered a unique natural phenomenon like this in your area? Let me know in the comments—I'd love to hear your stories!

Surf's up🌊 😍

Haha! I wish it was for surfing! 🏄‍♂️ It looks fun, but it's actually quite powerful—definitely not for the faint of heart. But it’s a thrill to watch!

There's something that I definitely don't see every day, does that happen often there? O_O

It's actually not that rare! It happens quite often, almost every week. The Digul River has a very winding, snake-like path, and the water flow creates these 'waves' whenever it hits those sharp turns. However, it doesn't happen everywhere—only in specific spots along the river where the geometry is just right.

Ah that makes sense. Were you looking for/studying them or just happened to be in the area when one happened?

I just happened to be there! I work in logistics and travel along the river, so it's something I see during my trips. It's always a sight to behold, even when you're just passing by.
