Beware of distractions in the virtual world, otherwise they can end up shortening your "real" life. Maybe Seneca would call a smartphone a life shortening device.

I think you're absolutely right about that, the cell phone has been a distraction in many people's lives, especially children, and that's bad in my opinion.
You simply quoted my favorite philosopher so I had to stop and comment. Seneca certainly wouldn't see the virtual world in a good light, as it is something that only distracts us from what really matters, which is the truth about ourselves.
I have two of his books here at home that I always consult at odd moments in my life.
