If you don't own a basic .22LR rifle, get one. The Ruger 10/22 is ubiquitous, at least in the USA, and just about every other company to ever make firearms has made something in .22LR, too.

I wouldn't want to get shot with one, but I wouldn't really consider it a combat-viable caliber, either. Still, it could upgrade you to some invading bastard's military kit if used judiciously.
