Okay been a while here, but thankfully I get to do participate again, So yeah, one of the most memorable Korean dishes I have ever seen and honestly tasted with my eyes first came from a Korean series called “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.” so If you have not seen that Kdrama, hmm… you are missing out, like seriously, so this series opened my eyes to a whole new level of Korean food that I didn’t even know existed.

Okay see before then, if you asked me about Korean food, the only things I could probably mention were kimchi, ramen, and tteokbokki, because those ones are everywhere in K dramas, anytime they bring out tteokbokki, it is always red, steaming, and everyone is eating it with so much enjoyment that you will just be swallowing saliva from your sitting room, Kimchi too, they add it to almost everything, and they always make it look like it is the most important food on the table.
But “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty” changed everything for me.
That drama made food feel like a character on its own, every episode, you will see dishes that look so beautiful that you will start wondering if they are meant to be eaten or framed, from royal meals to simple dishes, everything was prepared with so much care and meaning, I realized that Korean food is not just about eating, it is about culture, history, and emotions, the way they explained why a particular dish was cooked in a certain way, or why certain ingredients were used, made me appreciate food on another level.
One spicy dish that stood out to me was the way they prepared different kinds of stews and sauces, you could almost feel the heat through the screen, It reminded me of the first time I tried something close to Korean spicy food. I won’t lie, I wasn’t ready, I thought, “How spicy can this thing be?” Next thing, my eyes were watering, my nose was running, but somehow… I still wanted more though , that is the funny thing about spicy food, it punishes you but you keep going back.
Watching Korean dramas has actually shaped how I see food generally, there is always this sense of togetherness when they eat, whether it is family, friends, or even strangers, food brings them together, that part really touched me because it is similar to how food works in our own culture, food is not just food, it is connection.
So even though I haven’t tasted most of those dishes in real life, “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty” made them memorable for me, It made me curious, it made me hungry, and it made me respect the effort behind every plate of food, One day, I would really love to try proper Korean food, especially the spicy ones, even if I will be crying while eating it.
For now, I will keep enjoying them the way I know how, through my screen, with plenty imagination and saliva involved.
