Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine and wrapping up your work week. Somehow recently noodles have been the result of my food hunt recently. In the last post I shared about Ramen for the average Singaporean. Today I swing back towards another Ramen chain that can be found in many parts of Singapore and they have a total of 14 outlets islandwide.
The Place
LeNu Chef Wai's Noodle Bar
Address: JEM Shopping Centre, 50 Jurong Gateway Road #B1, #11, Singapore 608549
The place that I would like to share today is LeNu Chef Wai's Noodle Bar. The word LeNu actually is translated to Happy Cow in Chinese. This is a place that serves really good beef noodles but somehow we didn't order beef noodles today. But rest assured I will be back to get my hands on the beef noodles. But let's look at the place itself first. This restaurant is easy locate and access as it is very near a whole network of public transport and the shopping centre that house this noodle outlet has plenty of parking. However, during peak hours, parking can be a little harder to find. Chef Wai is one of the executive chefs of Paradise Group whom owns the chain and he is responsible for curating the menu for the chain. A good variety of noodle related items are available. T
Here's how the place looks like:
The noodle bar is nicely decorated and a great environment to dine in. There are loads of Japanese elements in the decor which included the kitchen counter and also the use of wooden tables and wooden stools for customers to sit on. Can feel that there is an attempt to replicate the feel of a simple yet premium class noodle bar. I like the cleanliness of the place and spacious walk paths. So now lets proceed on to the food section.
The Food
This is a place that is famous for beef noodles but somehow this time round both my wife and I opted for something else and also favoured the dry version of the ramen.
So in total, here is what we've ordered:
- Spicy Wanton Dry Ramen (me)
- Chef Wai's Special Anchovies Dry Ramen (wife)
- Braised Bamboo Shoots
- Chilled Black Fungus
- Beverages
Didn't manage to take a picture of all the items ordered as well as we were just too hungry and did not wait for each other's dish to be served to start eating. Spicy Wanton Dry Ramen is one of my favourite dish so I ordered this instead of Beef Ramen.
Spicy Wanton Dry Ramen
While many of the decor resembles a noodle bar in Japan, the menu is totally Chinese. And this item that I ordered is my favourite and can be eaten a couple of times in a week. The sour and spicy base/seasoning that is used to make the noodles is just so good. It makes you crave for more. While the appearance looks rather bland and not exciting, every bite packs a punch and have so much flavour. Each wanton had a nice bite and is also seasoned well. When put together, this is such a nice dish which had multi dimension of flavour and bite texture. A strong recommendation from me though it is not a beef ramen.
Chef Wai's Anchovies Dry Ramen
Another seemmingly simple ooking bowl of dry ramen. Though it looks simple, the layered texture from hard to soup from peanut and anchovies to the ramen was just so to the point. Love the amazing crunch from the large anchovies and the peanuts with a hint of sweetness. As compare to what I've ordered, a simpler sauce was being added to the bowl of dry ramen. Simple, easy to eat and satisfied when you finish it. This is indeed a masterstroke of Chef Wai whom created this dish. While I didn't order, I manage to sneak some from my wife on the key elements and items of her order. It was great and I enjoyed it as well. Didn't knew that these items can come together to make an amazing dish. This is yet another dish that is so good that I can even forget about ordering Beef Ramen.
Side Dishes - Braised Bamboo Shoot and Chilled Black Fungus
Somehow when eating ramen, we tend to order so side dish to add up to the meal. And so we ordered 2 side dish. Both of which felt like pickles just that the Chilled Black Fungus did have a little more crunch but both were very well prepared and loaded with loaded of flavour within. There are other side dishes available but I guess I would not look any further but to just keep to this two that is good in texture and crunchiness.
Overall:
This noodle bar I have passed it by for quite a number of occasions but somehow for today, I've decided to walk into the noodle bar and give it a try. And I have no regrets walking in and walk out with a satisfied stomach. The food we ordered were all good and I have yet to even try their beef ramen which also included Wagyu Ramen. Should be something worth looking into when I visit again. And from what I can see, they use good quality meat for their dishes and well worth every penny spent in the shop.
Closing
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. This is a noodle bar that I will definitely come back again as I have yet to taste what is best at their place. With already well done in the other dishes, I am certain I will be in for a treat when I visit next time and order the Wagyu Ramen. Looking forward to my next food hunting adventure in the neighbourhood. Have a great weekend everyone!
See you in the next post!
