Hi Everyone,
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is a restaurant I visited twice while I was in Bangkok. I missed the Teochew-style peppery pork soups that warm you from the inside out. Even though it is warm in Bangkok, the air con inside the centre cools you down and you are ready to tackle the meal. Instead of the usual pork ribs, I went for the pig stomach soup (ซุปกระเพาะหมู).
The broth was light and clear, but carried a serious hit of white pepper, exactly what you expect from a proper Teochew bak kut teh. The pig stomach slices were perfectly cleaned and cooked without being too tough/rubbery. A bowl of rice is a must when you have this soup. The great thing about this restaurant is they would come over and top up the soup if it is low, all included in the price. One little additional I love with the soup is the garlic that comes with it. It’s soft and sweet, great with the rice.
The pig stomach soup may not be everyone’s taste so there are many options to choose from in terms of protein in the menu. Pork rib will be my other choice if I want to get a bit of change. This is a place you come to when you want something hot, comforting, and clean-tasting especially on a rainy day or after a long shopping trip through Central World.
