Hey Hive!
We're back with more restaurantours! This was from back in Dec 2024, when we were pretty busy after going on a staycation here in Singapore. We hosted some overseas friends who came to visit us for a few days! It'd been a while since they visited so they wanted to go see some sights.
We went with them to Arab Street which is a famous cultural enclave in the city. There are plenty of 19th-century shophouses have been turned into stores selling textiles and casual restaurants serving spicy Malay and global fare.

Even though I've lived here all my life I don't think I ever really visited Arab Street before. First because there wasn't really a reason to, and second it's quite out of the way and outdoors so it's very warm too. Coming here with our overseas friends was also a good opportunity for me to be a tourist too!
It was around lunch time on a Friday so we thought it would be pretty crowded here but it wasn't too bad. There was a restaurant that was voted Best Halal Restaurant nearby so we decided to go there for lunch!
They didn't have a clear signboard but it's called Overrice and they specialise in Medittanean food inspired by New York City rice bowls! I honestly didn't know NYC rice bowls were a thing until I saw this.
They have a very nice interior with a modern industrial-style design and a colourful mural of Times Square in NYC.
It was fairly empty when we went in late lunch time, so we took our time to peruse the menu.
Their specialty was of course the rice bowls with various types of protein like fish, beef and chicken, topped with their signature white sauce and red sauce. It looked both hearty and healthy especially with all the greens. Honestly for how much stuff was in the bowl the Grilled Chicken Bowl was a pretty reasonable price.
They also had some tacos which looked really good.
They had some fancy drinks which definitely looked like good thirst quenchers especially since we were walking out in the hot sun earlier.
After we ordered we waited about 10-15 minutes for our food to be prepared.
In the meantime, we took some nice photos with their bright pink neon sign that was just perfect.
We ordered a yuzu honey drink so it was so warm out and we needed to cool ourselves down. It tasted pretty good, maybe a tad bitter from the yuzu but it was alright.
After a few minutes our first order arrived! It was technically our breakfast and so I wasn't super hungry, Sean and I decided to share the tacos since my IGN is TacoCat but I rarely get to eat them!
We ordered both the Grilled Spicy Chicken Tacos and the BBQ Beef Tacos just to see which one would taste better. I learnt from previous experiences with tacos that they could be quite small and knowing Sean I knew we would need an extra order.
But to my surprise they were actually quite substantial. Granted one taco was about 7 bucks but it was chock full of meat and vegetables and the taco shell was nicely toasted. It was definitely very saucy and I made a mess eating them but it was delicious! It tasted fresh and warm despite the slightly chill vegetables.
The spicy chicken was indeed quite spicy actually, but it was a pleasant spice kick. The sauce was probably the thing making it spicy. But it was delicious regardless.
Our friend ordered a chicken pita and it seemed pretty similar to the beef taco we had just that it was chicken. She said it was really good too. I think we might've exchanged one of our tacos for her pitas but I don't really remember.
Our other friend ordered the tempeh rice bowl since he's normally a vegetarian. It looked like a sizable bowl for one person, and I was glad I didn't order that since I was already quite full from the tacos. It looked really healthy but delicious. He said it was very fresh and the tempeh was nicely seasoned as well.
All the vegetables and sauces were probably the same but we had a good variety of all the different proteins the restaurant offered and I think they all tasted really good! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and left with satisfied stomachs.
Overall it was a very nice experience there so I would definitely recommend Overrice to anyone looking for a delicious halal meal in town. It may not be the cheapest for sure, but they have good food and good vibes.
